Had the worst experience last night I have ever had in a pub. Arrived with two friends at 8:30 - no proper beer, just IPA on keg at almost £4 a pop. After getting our second round in, they decided to just close the pub, came round and took the candle off the table, put all the chairs on the tables around us and switched all the lights up to max. How unwanted and unwelcome can you make guests feel? Would customers be treated that rudely in any other country. Probably not. This has to be the worst idea of customer service I have ever encountered and I certainly will not go near this pub again until and unless it changes hands. A snazzy website, blaring musak and a candle does not constitute ambience or customer service.

Visited Sat evening 10 Mar 12. Arrived about 6pm in a party of 9 without a table booking. They found us space in the room at the back and were happy to move the tables around so we could sit as one group. Had the chargrilled pork chop (~�13) and it was excellent. Tasted great, mash was lovely and the apple sauce seemed homemade. I'd gladly have that again. Manager was very chatty and funny with it. A friend that had ordered the apple crumble asked if there was more crumble and he responded "This is NW8 dear, we do gastro portions". It wasn't at all arogant, he was funny with it and he did get her a bigger portion. Some might find that a bit "in your face", but I reckon english pub management should be seen and heard - it's part of the charm of pubs.
Green King IPA was decent enough, but keg. They don't do cask, a damn shame for a pub this good, but they do have a decent selection of drinks.
Well worth a visit.

St John's Wood is one of those areas of London that is not really culturally British being host to an array of wealthy expats and despite the presence of Lord's there are few pubs in the area - a number having closed and been transformed into places like Cafe Rouge.
The Duke of York in man ways reflects this. Years ago it was a bit of a dive but has been refurbished in a pretty appealing way with comfortable seating in a U shaped bar area. If you don't like lager the drinks list is pretty limited - no ales on pump and just Guinness and Greene King IPA on tap. Staff are pretty lax but the food being served looked good. If you visit the toilets downstairs then you may see your meal being cooked as the door to the kitchen is adjacent to the toilet door which for some reason I found a bit offputting. The toilets themselves (well the gents at least) are acceptable enough but tiny.
Is this still a pub? Questionable really but in this wasteland for traditional establishments it is at least a serviceable place for a drink. Lack of local competition means it does get crowded in the early evening.

Well, personal circumstances have dictated a return to the Wood after 15 years. I recall the Sir Isaac Newton on the High Street (now Cafe Rouge) and the pub opposite Tesco (formerly Atlanta) which is now a Turkish restaurant. The Duke of York is still going. I remember going here in the old days when the food would be in heated dishes by the bar and the interior was full of books and nic nacs. Nice 80/90s stuff. Now it's all a bit poncey.
It's okay, full of estate agents and the like. �3.90 for a luke warm Staropramen. Has to be said SJW lacks decent pubs.

Stopped for a pint and some lunch. Firstly not really a pub as such more a restaurant with almost solely table service. No ales only lagers on tap. Very expensive but reflects the area. Food good but took a long time to arrive. We ordered at the bar but people around us were directed towards table service and then receiving 12.5% service added to the bill although stated as optional. Also wanted to keep our credit card behind the bar which worries me. Anyway if you want high quality pub food in an up market spot close to tube station then this is OK but the service issues make it hard work to enjoy. 4/10.

Good place. Gets a bit crowded and smokey on a Friday night (a few too many over-dressed real-estate agents). Yorkie fries are a good snack, and a nice selection of lagers on tap. Not a great pub if you're looking for a real beer...

My friend and I went there to have lunch on January 3rd, 2006. We had Guiness and Home-made steak with pie. They were really nice. The bar staff brought our table Guiness. Anyway, I left my woolen scarf there. It is RaIf Lauren made, purple colored, lots of polo patters. If the Bar staff of The Duke Of York knows about it, please tell me.

The only problem with this pub is that the zebra crossing doesnt lead straight to the door. Top place.

I think they need to have Jambalaya on the menu. The bar staff are pretty hot, especially Ivana. The beers pretty good as well.

Seems like a nice place but didn't like that the waitress filled in her own tip. I normally like to get the option to tip or not based on service and to have filled in before you get the bill is a bit rude.

This is an excellent pub if you are living in the area, as the staff will remember you and, upon seeing you walking towards the pub, have your regular drinks waiting. The owner (Connelly) is warm and gracious, and that carries over to his staff. The food is a bit exotic for pub fare, but it is complimented by the atmosphere and decor.

Gone downhill, food used to be very good but has now doubled in price and hasn't really improved. Still nice staff and atmosphere though.

Duke of York is happy to allow babies and children into the smoke free dining room during the afternoon. For those of us whose social lives didn't end when we had babies that's much appreciated.

They haven't got taste at all!
A friend of mine invited for a drink and I was very disappointed. It took ages for our order to arrive and it was the worst meal I've ever had in London. Take my advice. Go somewhere else. A bit of a drive or walk will be worthy.

Ha ha - full of suits on Friday evening you sad muppets. Sweltering inside - need some air conditioning. These types of pubs are ten a penny in London now.I remember it ten years ago and preferred it.

Appart from the estate agents, it a fantastic pub with friendly staff. Great dips and the best steak and wedges I've had in London.

Great pub serving really good food (though menu could do with changing a bit more frequently).
Seems to have been decorated in moroccan style though I imagine the straw and plaster walls are a local innovation.
