We visited here as we were attending a gig in the back room. A real basic boozer which would have suited us fine but for the boring beer choice. We had just returned from a real ale tour of Derby where all the free houses offered the most fantastic choice of beers to suit all tastes. I'm afraid Ringwoods (which I used to love) and Hobgoblin are all of a similar style and personally just don't appeal to me anymore. Has Ringwoods been dumbed down since the takeover? Certainly tastes like it. Anyway can't say I'd recommend this pub for its beer but I commend them for having 2 rooms for bands and artists to perform. BTW the band we saw was Panic Room really excellent music. Go see

A bit rough and ready but the ale was good enough, Cocker Hoop and a couple of others, pool table and a room out the back where bands play sometimes. Gets a bit studenty sometimes but its OK as an ale outlet. Small outside area which is good for Summers days...

Lively town centre pub handy for a quick pint whilst waiting for a train. The atmosphere was friendly when I went in, no music on at the time but that's obviously the crowd they're aiming at. There were some strange people in, but everyone seemed happy. The pint of RIngwood I sampled wasn't best kept but was drinkable nonetheless.
Not my first choice of pub in Winchester, but I wouldn't mind going back.

Very much a music venue, the beers are well kept but not great, slightly above average price for the area. On the ale side regional brewers rather than the industrial giants who supply this pub the same old range of kegs plus San Mig. Basic decor, lots of posters for forthcoming bands etc, big pool table and a balcony bar available for hire.

I like this pub. Superbly situtated by the station. Music venue if thats your kind of things. Otherwise can watch the music videos that are going on. The Ringwood beer is not really to my taste. However there are other good beers or ciders which can be chosen. 10/10 for my money.

Dissapointed; was told it was THE live music venue in Winchester (possibly the only one left?) Sadly it was very small, and the 'venue' section even smaller, which is why it was very intimidating and squashed; we saw several fraca's and fights which didnt help. The music was OK, but the clientelle were looking for trouble... Beer was ok, food absolute rubbish -fried fat everything ..shame.

This is a pub that is largely aimed at Winchester's students, but is no worse for it. The big draw here is the music room out the back, which has hosted a number of top brands (largely before they were famous).
Pleasantly surprising selection of real ales, some of which you won't find anywhere else in the city.

Only a brief stop due to a desperate need for a kebab and the train home, so slammed a half - but was in long enough to take enjoy the left-field vibe of the place. Definitely an evening stop though, can't imagine too much life in here during daylight hours.
A friendly (and frighteningly skinny) barmaid serving the liquid tucker including a couple of good ales, my Banks' Sunshine was in decent form.
Will stop off again to explore further next time...only have another 18 pubs to do in Winchester

Nice pub near the station (as you can probably guess by the title) Interesting range of Ales which i have not heard of before, also obviously a music room round the back

Excellent for music lovers.

The only decent venue in Winchester with a permanent sound reinforcement p.a.rig. large range of music from folk to experimental electronica. Has enabled the growth of the town's eclectic and often exciting music scene. Surprisingly in a area of inflated property prices with some utterly cretinous property owners.

Used to frequent this place a fair bit, not always for a live band. Good atmosphere, and the not-so-recent refurb opened the upstairs, too.

What a bizarre place! Pool tables, darts, usual pub fare...then loads of Goths and a back room for live music. Liked it. One of the livilier places in Winchester but still frequented by the odd posh goon student living off Daddy's wealth.

Not open until 5pm so obviously no point in going here for a pub lunch. However if you want to see live music you're in favour! Live bands here almost every night of the week. Good craic. Tends to attract a youngish crowd.

It's open late. Which is a good thing. Not bad if you like live music and/or middle-age hippies spilling snake-bite down your work suit while dribbling on about Woodstock.

Only real live venue in winchester, nice litle place, atmosphere's cool but not cliquey (not sure about that word!!) Used to play here a lot. There's a good open mic on mondays and it's really handy for the station! (hence the name!)

Does anyone remeber a band called Picturehead playing here a few times?

The band that i am in plays there a lot. It is called the Usual. Great venue which would be hard to live without.
|
Will always be special because we played our first ever gig here. Good music, nice chilled out upstairs with sofas and the like. Front bar can be disappointingly quiet in the week this pub deserves to be more popular.

The music room's great with live bands regularly. Beer's not bad either.
