user reviews of the Bishops Mill, Salisbury

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Great location outside by the river and a fine looking place too.

However once inside the place is soulless with no atmosphere and TV's on.

Food was an average microwave lasagne.

Won't really bother again.

5/10

Visited recently and found it to be much improved over a frankly disappointing experience several years ago.
Things have clearly changed for the better and though not a real ale paradise as such the Abbot Ale was fine, the place appeared clean and tidy toilets included and the staff friendly and efficient.
A decent selection of bar snacks too, and a few quiz/gaming machines for amusement...will definitely go back on the crawl circuit for future Salisbury jobs.

Having seen previous comments on here about The Mill, I feel I should comment. I live in SAlisbury and have been coming to The Mill for about 10 years now. Yes its had its rough patches for sure, and a lot has gone down to the staff in years gone by.
HOWEVER this place has clearly had a huge turnaround, big investment, new management, and clearly some great recruiting. Staff are permanant, knowledgeable and definitely FRIENDLY. Yes youngsters still frequent, however the demographic has changed since meal offers and honestly good quality food and a good price was introduced.
Yes the garden is the winner in the City CEntre, but to put comments of years gone by straight, The Mill is a superb City Centre Pub.......

As the name implies, it's a pub built into what was once one of the City's important mill buildings. It should be a spectacular venue and has a great deal of potential - sadly unrealised. It has become a soulless, bland drinking den for teenies and morons, a temple to mediocrity. No real ale on and generally characterless. Best avoided in its current incarnation; The King's Head and Slug and Lettuce are both better bets, both within 50 yards and both selling real ale, while there are many more pubs within 5 minutes' walk.

Looks great from the outside - lots of character inside, you would think? 'Fraid not, rather soulless and a bit chavvy. Nice beer garden though.

Was there on a warm May day Saturday afternoon. Four empty casks of real ale. Somebody in the queue made a remark about this and was not served by the acting manager, who was not able to take this. The management know the weather forecast, so that they can act upon it, don't they? If they can't sell "no", why do they offend customers in this way? I'd say clean up your act. Customers can be precious to you. There are better alternatives nearby, with real ale.

a lot has changed at this pub over the last 12 months, it has had a change of management who have introduced live music every Friday night, the customers are now much more diverse, a lot of rock/alternative types are making this their new drinking den, the food is ok, decent sized portions and the bar prices are pretty much on par with the most of Salisbury.
"Scott" is still working there, if he didn't help out with the contact details for the company, he wouldn't have known them, as he's usually a pretty helpful guy, although the old management were terrible... i now really enjoy this pub!

Was not happy with the rudity of the service I received, before asking for the address of the head office of the company whereupon the bar supervisor "Scott" refused to give me any details as he "didn't know them". It should be emphasised that any worker of any company should be provided to know the details of a superior at any time necessary. I require still, the details of the head office as I have a serious complaint. If anyone out there does know the details of head office I would be interested, as "Scott" clearly is not.

Used to be a fun night out, but now full of idiots, and the staff are not much better!

Used to be a lot better. Has had a fantastic new refurb but poor management really lets it down. Brilliant DJ Saturday nights but the pub in general tends to attract mainly foul-mouthed teenagers.

its absolutely dreadful im my opinion; rude management, belligerent customers (macho squaddies) and chewy, tasteless food. Place to avoid.
