We visited this venue several times last year ( 2013 ) and 3 times this year ( 2014 ) we found the staff friendly and the drink prices reasonable also you can use debit/credit cards providing the value of your order is over £5 the dj on Saturday nights is good and lightshow adequate for a local pub on Fridays the karaoke is very popular with some good non pro singers ( check these guys / girls out ) certainly worth a visit

Great pub with good atmosphere. Real ales now served. Cask marque accredited. Lots of sport on 4 large screen tv's. Karaoke and live music plus good juke box and background music. Real value and good quality drinks. The busiest pub in Banbury and its clean and they don't tolerate unsociable behaviour.
A must to visit.

Big open pub but nice bar staff and interesting clientele along with reasonably priced beer and footsie screens make it worth a visit

now reverted back to the Dog and Gun...no real ale
|
Popped in last Saturday night for a look. Nice new decor but they have covered over the old well! Why? Used to be a feature years ago when people used to queue up in all weathers to get into this pub. Glad it's the Dog & Gun again.
|
Cleaned up ...and did`nt it need it ...still a Barn of a place.....only one TV now thank god.....No real ale...shame
|
Now refurbished and open as The Dog & Gun. Sad to report no real ales. The make over was much needed but gives it a really corparate feel. Its clean tidy and the landlord is a nice enough chap. But for me it is characterless and worse, aleless.

Glad that this place is almost ready to re-open and had reverted to the old name The Dog & Gun. Years ago TD&G was one of the best pubs in town and the nostalgic in me hope they'll recapture that vibe - will wait and see.

Whatever happened to this place ? Used to be a cracking pub, great sports venue, music venue and a ressonable lunch venue. Unfortunately, pubco buys it and puts 13, yes 13 different managers in a year. Now under new ownership hopefully it will improve.

The young Irish lad (Johnny) was possibly the best bar man I have ever been served by. Since he left things are definately not the same but it is not that bad. Reading 'anonymous' post I think it should be on the Chicago's posting. Not sure when he is talking about. It does however, have plenty of room for improvement.
Food: Fair, had better. Decor: Clean, some chairs starting to look a bit shabby Toilets: Reasonable and clean most of the time Service: Some staff need to visit 'Johnny's school of bar tending' Smiling is optional but prefered...!
|
Has gone downhill alarmingly since Johnny and the Irish lads left.....went in the depths of winter and guess what...no heating, kitchen closed....put it down to the changeover period...went in last week...ordered Pannini and chips....had ate the pannini and supped up before the chips finally arrived..the excuse..it took the fryer a long time to warm up...sorry......well sorry I wont be spending my hard earned in there again

I agree with anonymous. It used to be good with all the Irish lads behind the bar, but they've all left now. Now it's horrible.
|
Again another pub with plenty of screens to view the footy. I can see were anonymous's comments are coming from as sadly the place doesn't seem to have the same friendly glow that it had when it first opened. The drinks are expensive & last time I was in on a Saturday night they weren't that busy so they booted everyone out at 1pm when it is usually open till 2pm. Foods OK still though not as good as it used to be.

I'm afraid this pub has an attitude problem. They seem to think they are the "Place to be" on a Saturday night and as such, are able to treat the general public as something you would see being vomited in to the streets at around 3am on a Sunday morning. The doormen are very aggressive and seem to take umbridge to respectable, paying clients and only really want their friends in. The beer is poor and very expensive. The toilets are filthy and the floor is stickier than an exploded bubblegum factory. In short, do not go....

They spent the early part of 2003 renovating an old pub in Banbury and we weren't overjoyed at the prospect of an Irish theme pub but it really is absolutely brilliant. Good beer, amazing food and yet another good garden. They even have an indoor play area for the kids (and the young at heart.)
