Tried this pub yesterday after a visit to nearby Selhurst Park. It was probably the worst pub of the day for me. I've just reviewed the Grape & Grain in Crystal Palace and said it was too light and airy. Well the Portmanor is just too dark and depressing. The interior is characterless and feels more like a nightclub than a pub. I believe it is popular for live music fans. So this may be why. But the ale selection - Courage Best only was also poor. Disappointing.

played in there tonight, good vibe. having read previous comments all i can say is it must be under new management

Paid another visit here yesterday has such potential but is now a polish youth club with a couple of junkies thrown in what a shame!

Thats because Fosters is piss water its meant to smell like eggs you idiot

Paid my first and last visit to this hole of a pub last week. Waited ages to be served, obviously the barmaids coversation was far more important. When I did eventually get my pint I wish I hadn't bothered. What was supposed to be Fosters smelt and tasted of rotten eggs. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place like the plague!

horrible pub run by two big aggressive, rude irishmen. i understand they also have the cherry trees so at least they are consistent in running terrible pubs
i would rather drink toilet duck in a crackhouse than frequent this dive again

Had a couple in there fairly recently with a friend. Cheapest pint of Pride I've had for a long time and it was well-kept! It was before the Palace/Watford match on a Monday night so a few Palace fans were in. All in all an OK pub.

A strange deserted pub with 80s decor and a jukebox that only plays Phil Collins.

Several years ago this was probably the best pub in South Norwood. The beer range was competitively priced, challenging the nearby Wetherspoons. Guest ales from small independent breweries featured stongly.
Alas several regime changes put a stop to all that, and the Portmanor's star faded.
On the 21st September there were 2 real ales on: Courage Best and London Pride, a shadow of its former glory days when 4 to 6 ales featured, often selling out within hours of being put on...
Perhaps the new management could show some imagination, and stock a couple of interesting guests? There IS demand out there and it CAN be done as I've said above.

This pub could be the best in the area, but over the years has often suffered from lousy management. Still, at the moment it's doing well. Yesterday I enjoyed a superlative pint of London Pride. Let's hope the upward trend continues.

the DJ jeff is great on a friday and every other staurday, plenty of dancing from some of the regulars that know how to have a laugh.

This pub is okay but is quite often virtually deserted. It has recently changed management which is good as the last lot were awful and probably responsible for custom deserting the place. There was a bit of a drug issue here and I'm not sure if it has really cleared up.

The atmosphere has improved dramatically with the new management and staff. The sat night DJ is a great night out.

under new management from Feb 04 the new host is genial and very efficient, the quality of the beers has improved dramatically, his first target was ridding the place of its growing drug culture

A noisy pub attracting a young crowd. DJ on Saturday nights with dancing. The beer quality is a bit "on-and-off" here.
