Proper local pub, a touch of the ole plywood spoils the bar a bit but a great place non the less. As previous poster - Friendly staff, a good choice of ale, and yes, they ran out of Harveys too!

PUMPS - Harvey's, Wye Valley HPA, Abbott and Thatchers too.

Well reccommended!

Oh my, what a pub. There is literally something for everyone (and they don't even do food!!). I would highly recommend this pub for a party we had a birthday party there and the landlord and landlady could not have been more helpful, the DJ they recommended was amazing, the locals joined in at our request (very friendly locals by the way).
We went back the day after and spent the day playing pool and watching SKY sports. A proper pub for proper people.
The only let down was they ran out of Harvey's but the Wye Valley HPA was just as good.
KEP IT UP!!

Just opened an new extension which makes it much better. The young landlord & landlady seem really on the ball and committed to the sucess of this pub, they both made a point of talking to us when we were in there the other day and really care about what they're doing.

Beers were Doombar, Summer Lightning & Harveys plus Thatchers heritage cider. Well worth a visit

Bar billiards is a bit of a focal point in the left hand bar - unless it's quiz night where you have to make yourself scarce ! The local team are pretty formidable, and the food they lay on for the visiting teams is very good. It helps having an interested landlord.

Must have caught them on a bad day yesterday. The Goddards Ale of White had just finished (replaced while we were there) and they only had Fullers ESB available. It was in reasonable condition. Nice of the landlord to apologise though. Despite that, the place is easy to get to although parking locally is a problem if you come by car. I got the feeling its very much a locals pub although we seemed to be welcome.

Excellent ales, well kept, but the pub doesn't feel quite right - it is one very big open plan room and feels just a bit lacking in privacy

As has already been said, the beer is good here but there is something about this pub that makes it appear unfriendly - but its not really.

It seems quiet most of the time and a real locals pub.

Try perservering with it but i only use for a pre/post train pint.

Visited this pub again yesterday to get this year's Ale Trail stamp. The Goddard's beer was excellent. The pub itself seemed very quiet for a Sunday lunchtime.

I'm afraid I always find this pub rather dreary. Whilst not hostile, I never feel the locals are particularly friendly. The beer quality can be variable too. The Red River I had a few months ago was excellent, but the pint of 1648 Original I had on Sunday seemed a bit flat. Other people seem to like this pub, so give it a try, it may just be me!

Nice pub, beers always good. The guest was WJ King Red River Ale and I was apparently the first to try it. The landlady was very friendly and obviously cares about her customers.
Yes it's a locals pub but a frienly locals and the best pub in Burgess Hill easily. Also in The Good Beer Guide and on the Sussex Ale Trail.
Good quiz on Thursday evenings.

Perfect locals pub. All the ales are great but its great to see the weekly change of the guest pump. Food has always been the normal pub standard. A place to catch up with old friends and faces.

Shame it gets too smokey if more than five people are at the bar. Friendly staff, customers and dog.

Nice enough pub without being sensational. Seems very much a locals pub, yet with a friendly enough atmosphere to put newcomers at ease. Four ales on handpump: London Pride, Young's "Ordinary", Old Speckled Hen, plus one guest which was a Westerham seasonal beer on my visit. Less than 100 yards from Wivelsfield train station.
