Friendly staff and doorstaff, a great music policy playing lots of party music with a decent mix of commercial music. The place is a lot cleaner and looks better than in previous years. It seems like it is having a bit of investment for a change with a whole new lighting system, some great drinks deals and some much needed new heat lamps for the terrace bar! All down to some young blood, I have been informed by doorstaff that the place has new management. A young manager which is just what the place needed to inject some life back into it from the days of when the aircon never worked, barstaff had an attitude and it was full of under 21's. It was nice to see a change after not visiting the venue in a while.

Typical Fleet street toilet full of muffin topped boss eyed chavettes and their knuckle dragging tiny headed chav boyfriends, if you are studying the dysfunctional breakdown in family life, law and order and respect then this might be the place for you, otherwise don't go there!

Was in here at weekend to watch Mancester United v Chelsea. Screens are a bit poorly served by seats - last time I was in here they'd arranged all the seating for the big screen but this wasn't in use so there were plenty people in odd arrangements to see a TV around pillars etc. No ales on but as usual a good selection of lagers. I didn't notice a food menu either on this visit but on previous visits to watch football I've enjoyed some good pizza in here.

Well I thought they were closing down......;(

I have been going there for time, but now its all run down toilets broke upstairs heaters not working And the staff are so damn rude, miserable, i left early due to thier selective bar serveing. I asked for the owners name and contact and was refused it, i asked for the web site so i could make a complaint. the manager A Stubbs seemed clueless as what to do. And said all complaints were to be with him..really!! He never even asked which of the staff it was. Funny as i was complaining some one else left saying .."what a miserable lot behind the bar"

Went here last night - arrived at 2100hrs and the staff told us it was closed, then didn't know what time they were opening!! As it was, they then opened. No real ale, limited choice of draught drinks - the cider was awful.

It would appear that there are no pub reviewers in Swindon which is a shame. This place is as busy as ever at the weekend.

Whatever happened to SWINDONGAL I may not have agreed with her but at least she made the effort. Not been to the Lava for some time maybe I'm due another visit to check out any changes, shame it's surrounded by the rest of downtown Swindon "nightlife".
|
Swindongal is to young to be drinking but she has got a point about this place. It's shit!

Love the Lava! Had many a great night there. Music a bit predictable though.

Been on holiday so I've only just got around to catching up. I didn't realise swearing & casting aspersion was allowed on this site, now I am aware I'm sure it'll make it far more fun. The Lava probably isn't the best place for the very young to go, but then that isn't the aim of the place it's supposed to be for over 21's so maybe the doormen aren't as good as I thought they were. Obviously being old I will like all the shit places where sensible adults can listen to decent music and hold adult conversations, without adolescents with attitude shouting & swearing and picking fights around them, the Lava falls into this category.

SW6. i do go out in swindon, obviously it is a good place to go. as i am now ust turned 18 ive been giving places a try again. i do in fact like going to Revolution, Walkabout, Reflex is ok and so is edwards. revolution is not on here so i cannot comment. you are old so of corse u will like the shit places. if you dont like my comments dont read them, alot of places are shit. im not going to say they are good just because they are there. the staff are not friendly, and believe it or not but your drink was probibly someone elses mistake and has been sat there all night gathering discusting substances. how do i know? that doesnt matter but i know. if your old and like that kind of thing, fair enough. personally i preffer reflex.

The Lava may not be the best night out I've had but it's not that bad. I've just read swindongal's comments on a few other places and I suppose she's entitled to her opinion, but I can't see why she goes out in Swindon at all. Lava has probably the best attitude of all the downtown pubs, decent music, good food, friendly staff and they show all the top sport on 2 big sceens and numerous plasmas. As I said not my first choice, but then I am getting on a bit.

this place is the most rubbish place ive ever been too. well its not as bad as mbrago but it almost is. the barstaff are not friendly atall. the manager is a 100% prick. too many people in there. the dj is shit, never plays a whole song.too expensive, broken chairs. glass everywhere. the toilets are always a state. when i see people queing up in the rain to go into that shit hole. i nod my head in shame. old people might enjoy it, for evryone else...its crap. i give it a 1 out of 10.

First visit in quite a while. Probably the best of the bunch downtown. Sensible doorstaff, friendly barstaff & a decnt(ish) mix of music. Stowford Press cider a refreshing change.

What a change. This venue is stunning now. The refurbishment they've done has made loads of space and makes it looks really funky. Far and away the best place in Swindon especially on a Fri and Sat nights if you love a party. Make sure you try it!!! A+

Alright for a few visits but you get the impression that it doesn't really know what it's trying to achieve. eg despite having a cool picture of The Jam on the wall a member of staff didn't know who they were. Retro is not cool. Cover bands are not cool. Lava is hot (not cool) and lounge bars are not cool. In summary, not cool.
|
I think that it is an ok pub but not the best sorry guy`s but you need to be abit bigger for my liking, music is ok but not the best everyone plays the same now in town.....

Absolutely no beer worth drinking whatsoever.
But it's quite good fun, with a little dance floor and some cheese-stuffed tunes. An amusing way to spend a Saturday night.
Queues for the loos are massive, there's a shared sink area which is out in the open at the top of the stairs, and the Ladies has crazy double cubicles, meaning that you can literally "go" in pairs.

Nice bar with exellent atmosphere and great special offers. Very popular, thus the queing, and so get there early to avoid getting wet whilst waiting outside. Good music and entertainment and freindly staff. Worth a visit, or two!!

Completley buzzing a good atmosphere special offers it is small but it has entertainment every night. Best pub in town(down the bottem of town.) You always have to que to get in but its worth it.
