I don't really like the elderfield -- it has a really depressing atmosphere. Most often it's really empty and the people who are there are super drunk with their head in their hands or passed out on the table. It rarely has music and when it does it's really quiet and something really comedowny like Tortoise or Mogwai or Yo La Tengo, which is nice but doesn't make for much of a party atmosphere or even a not falling asleep atmosphere. It has Leffe which is good and gets me pretty wasted pretty quickly and I try to forget where i am. It has scrabble which is good and feels appropriate but I'd rather be at a pub where playing scrabble feels inappropriate really.

Friendly pub, nice atmosphere, good chips

i think they have changed the name of the pub to the englefield - some sort of legal problem about the name eclipse

Popped one Friday teatime after a beer on the river at the Anchor and Hope. Friendly landlord and barstaff, at least 3 ales on (Harveys, IPA etc), didn't stay long enough to check jukebox out but this is definately worth a look if you're up that way. Cool wood panelled interior, possibly 1930's.

Interesting, cosy decor. Hoegaarden. Fab juke box. Yay.

A very friendly pub, with well maintained cold beer and a choice in wine that extends beyond the usual house red and white. Preserved architectural features, parquet flooring and smooth wood panelling suggests a slight art deco feel rather than the traditional victoriana that the buildings exterior suggests, and it provides a relaxing backdrop. Plenty of seating and board games make it an easy venue to while away a few hours, but you better skip it if you hate rare soul music, there seems to be a mandate that this is all you can listen too. At least it's not R&B or worse still, Jazz.

Lovely Pub that does a great pint of Pilsner. Some of the friendliest bar staff I have come across in a long time.Sure the music might not be to everyones taste but it is not intrusive and takes nothing away from this fine establishment

an exellent pub, a vast improvement from whatever was there before..

Best sunday lunch in London - a whole roast chicken for eight quid - excellent.
To the veggie bloke below - yes vegetable curry does sound like the worst food I 've had in my life, Answer: Eat bloody meat then.

This pub is a haven for all soulboys, northen soulers, etc. It plays very good music all the time.
Putting the music aside, the venue is bland and soulless. It's a safe haven for all the new middle class folk who have just moved to Clapton, who aren't too comfortable in multicultural working class pubs.

Don't even think about having a Sunday roast there. The worst food i have tasted in my life. What's with the vegetable curry thing!!!
Very Very good pint of Guiness though!

Good ale as well as Czech lager and is generally very pleasant. Deserves to succeed as is by far the best non-Canal side pub in Clapton. If you live in the area and have not been there, go and have a drink, you won't regret it.

This pub was taken over about a year ago, and is a little oasis of calm in Hackney/Lower Clapton. It's got a friendly atmosphere - good beer (czech lager on draught) - and a pub quiz on mondays. What more could you ask?
