Last week in May.Arrive in Manchester and it is true Manchester weather so off on the tram to Navigation Road and the Packet House.
Timothy Taylor's Golden Best as good as usual plus a huge lamb shank with all the trimmings followed by jam rolly poly and custard.
Never mind the weather.
Nice staff too.

Made a point of going here for lunch on Monday to try the lamb shank. Highly recommended. Comes with mash and 4 veg lashings of gravy and freshly made mint sauce. Good value.
Excellent Tim Taylor's Golden Best.Always find it to be extremely well kept here.

Pleasant and friendly, the Timothy Taylors Golden Best was good but expensive (2.50)

Nice little place. Beers usually good and the food is a step up from the Navigation across the road, though not quite as cheap. It's still true about "your face not fitting" and trouble getting served, especially at weekends. The location is good for transport as the buses to Altrincham and Manchester are just over the road and it's an easy 5 minute walk to the Metrolink tram at Navigation Road for both journeys (when it's up and running again - SUPPOSEDLY in September!). There are restuarants and take-outs over the road. The beer garden is faily secluded but you'd probably only use it in the 2 weeks of summer we get! My relatives stayed here and said the rooms had character (in a good way!) and the service very good. I'm told they have cheesy live vocalists and kareoke some nights so choose wisely! All in all worth at least a pint

Have yet to revisit since the smoking ban came in as prior to that it was always "cosy". Agree that it always seemed hard to get served too but we're talking a few years ago.
Rarely out in this neck of the woods in the evening and we tend to go in the Navi if out in the afternoon as the kids are OK in there (plus the cheap boddies)
Always had a reputation for excellent food although I can't comment
I believe the "Broadheath Belles" swoop on unsuspecting young males, you have been warned

Definitely a place where its a case of if your face fits that said it is a nice little pub with a great character and excellent food, one of very few left! the only down side is, if like most normal people, you only go out a couple of times a week and dont want to spend every night in the same four walls, its highly unlikely that you will treated that well, the bar staff are indeed very friendly, but you tend to pick up on the fact that they dont really want you drinking in there, a bit hard some will say but try it for yourself.. I will say that the positives of this place far outweigh the negatives so give it a whirl.

Very cliquey place, but once your face fits it's Ok. Good atmosphere in winter, though, due to it being quite cosy.

This is a great little pub, with friendly staff and good food. Nice beer garden for the sun and a large TV for the sport. The Hyde pint I had was great.

Great pub, staff very friendly! Don't know what coaster bloke means although his comments are over 2 years old. I'm new to area and found the staff and locals to be very welcoming. Having said that the beer is a bit pricey in comparison to the Navigation across the road, but I guess you get what you pay for!

I agree with Harvey on this one.
It's a lovely, cosey pub especially in winter.
I don't go in that often and it sometimes can take some time to get served but then sometimes I get served quickly in my local.
Worth visiting, hard to believe pubs like this are still around if you can wait a bit when it's busy. You could always go to the Navigation across the road as punishment for not waiting!

Class pub for a saturday afternoon with great bar staff and a good juke box. Not meaning to cause a row but why shouldnt pubs/barstaff favour their regulars/locals as its them who sit there everyday and line the landlords pockets?? to many pubs are becoming so robotic that its nice to have a place with an atmosphere and an attitude. Barstaff these days seem to read off a script that was obviously written by the same bloke who wrote the mcdonalds "would you like fries with that" masterpiece. The packets staff (jackie/sally/shell)are good fun and well mannered plus Michelle is by far the best looking barmaid in the north!! Well done by jove!!

Unless your face fits and is well know in here...forget getting served in a hurry (10 mins on a 4'x12' bar!!!) It's a nice enough place, but the bar staff are so far up the locals asses, it's like a scene from the league of Gentlemen... "ARE YOU LOCAL???" I live on Navigation Road - And have done for over 7 years... but if I walk in here it's like I have 2 heads..... I'd rather expend the shoe leather and head upto the Wheatsheaf (7 mins walk) at least you get a friendly welcome who ever you are!
(plus the quiz is poo!)

Cracking beer and decent food are the plus points. On the negative side,it's quite cramped, gets very smokey in winter and is certainly a "locals" pub
