This pub, as far as British pubs go actually isn't too bad once you accept what you are going to get....which is the usual grotty sticky tabled kitsch brewery chain pub populist appeal nonsense- it's friendly- the lager isn't bad and that's something for the UK- you can sit outside- they don't care if you walk outside the front and sit on the bench with your glass (a hanging offence in most brit boozers), there is a big tele and its' dark inside...don't know about the food but fresh is unlikely....all that said...this place is ok for a pint- but usual of Britain- a great view but the pub just misses out on it- so much wasted opportunity......a good score of 5 here for the guru alezilla....

Very dog-friendly (inside and out) traditional pub overlooking Fareham Creek. Serves superb quality and value pub food & real ales (new guest ale every month) and the staff are always keen to keep dogs happy with handfuls of free dog biscuits!! They also have live bands on once or twice a month and do a free pub quiz Sundays.

Decent enough locals pub and good luck to them, but as an infrequent Fareham pub crawler its prices cant compare with the town centre but it is a true pub in fairness to it and I will keep coming for the first couple.

This wonderful pub is being ruined. It comes to something when one forsakes long standing company due to the management. Other pubs are seeing me...unheard of a year ago!
Things will improve if changes are ever made. Study the implied timeline from previous comments and you can see the 'boundary.' Unfortunately, this was a wonderful, thriving community pub that may not survive if drastic action is not taken before the brewery accountants spot the disastrous bottom line.
I am quite bitter (no pun intended) about the direction my local has taken.

This used to be a very nice pub to visit but since the previous landlady left last year standards have fallen rapidly. Staff change on almost a weekly basis. It can, on ocassions, take up to half an hour to be served (even for regulars). Once it gets to 10pm Staff are more interested in bottling up & removing drip trays than serving. Do not leave your beer unattended on the bar whilst you go for a cigarette, as it is likely to be removed & disposed of, as I have seen on several ocassions. Once last orders have been called, you can forget about ordering a drink as staff deliberately ignore you. There used to be great entertainment on a regular basis, now its once in a blue moon. The quiz has gone downhill rapidly with prizes being cut & the standard of quizzes being hit & miss. It is clear on most sundays that the quiz answers are not checked for accuracy as many of the questions have completely wrong answers. There used to be a very varied amount of regulars that would write & read the quiz, however the new landlady seems to be freezing them out. The staff are definately unfriendly & miserable.

this used to be a lovely little pub. New manager taken over and she is very very rude and is quickly running the place into the ground. Wouldn't bother going again, standards are poor, food is awful - when they bother to open the kitchen, staff are rude and manager doesn't appear to care - dont bother!

Visited over xmas. How this pub got into the good pub guide, albeit the lucky dip section, is beyond me. Poor quality real ale served by miserable unfriendly staff. Happy xmas!

used to be a great pub util greene king came along and spoilt it
|
Good atmoshere but spoilt by Greene King,s reluctance to serve any decent real ale.

I also like this pub and am pleased it's off the "main drag". I think the food is really good and the service. My only gripe is that it does not serve food in the evening, if it did it would be a regular for me.
|
i like this pub, its quite old fashioned with the low ceilings and flagstone floor and all the better for it(is it listed?). good choice of ale and pretty good grub too.

This is a great pub, with friendly staff and good beer, The quiz on sunday nights can be fun, if a little noisy at times.
|
Worth a punt for the food and ale. It's a bit off the main drag, so it tends not to attract the kind of punter who thinks a good night out ends with a trip to A&E to have a beer glass removed from their face.
The ceilings are a tad low, I have to remove my top hat on occasion. However, the staff and customers seem to work well together. It's not a traditional yachties pub, it's more like a training venue for those who aspire to be the typical buck-toothed, braying ass that one would traditionaly associate with the clan McYacht. It's actually quite pleasant to be able to sit in a pub, looking at yachts and boatyards, without Princess Anne's more assinine relatives screeching about spinnakers into your left ear.
Well worth a visit.

Friendly pub - recommended by our cabbie. Greene King IPA only real ale. 6/10.

This bar is atmospheric any time of day, and livens up in the evenings, especially weekends. Live music on a Saturday, and a quiz night on Sunday. Very friendly bar staff, a beer garden, and views of Fareham creek, (looks better than it sounds!).
