Good pub, live music, plenty of students too though.

Found a clip in The Manchester evening news that made me want to go here, it was a campaign to save it which im glad they did. 3 Real ales on and a few American bottle beers in the fridge along with a few from Germany. Its a bigger pub than i first thought when i walked in as it has a pool room at the back and an outside smoke area. I had a beer from the little valley brewery in Halifax which was on good form.

Just a bit of Info. MMU have recently bought the pub and put student pub company Trof in charge. But they retain 3 real ales and according to literature American Craft beers

Quite a misnomer - possibly one of the rudest barmen I have ever come across. Limited selection of real ales - two hand pumps available, although one was off when I visited.

A very cosy pub tucked away round the back of the college of music. Reasonably priced beer, well kept as well, very local but friendly at the same time. Had my friend's dad not told of this place I'd never have found it, and on the rare event I find myself in that area I'll certainly nip in for a pint.

Nice beer. Until it gets too smoky to enjoy it that is.
One to certainly try again when the new laws come in.

Seems to bring out the two extremes in people.
Some seem to think it`s the best pub in the world, others hate it.

I`m somewhere in the middle.

The "hate it" brigade usually cite it been really clicky.I know what they mean but don`t think it`s over the top and certainly never seen strangers been treated badly by the staff.

Beware of the invisable dips in the floor, deliberately
built on entrances to toilets to make even the most steady man hit the deck after a dozen pints.

Comfortable, fit bar staff, but smokey as F***! gets unbearable on a weekend night.

Bit disappointed on the sundaypre Paddys day. This wasalways my place for a few beers & a listen to a few tunes from various players...this year it was flat as a pancake,no music,no craic & a championship game (ie 1st division)on the box...Nice refurb-but get the basics right!

A Manchester institution.

Been going to this pub for 13 years now - and its the best its ever been since a certain dashing eric barker took it over. Great atmosphere and the pub looks great since the refurb last year. Eclectic mix of people and good juke box - even if its a bit pricey. Check out Roofy's tea time currys and the one tree island lawn parties in the summer..bring back the bingo...and we are loving queen victoria in the corner.

Oh! I remember this place. Found it on a wander behind the library on a cold winters evening. What a find! Lovely.

This is a great Manchester pub long may it stand. I have been going to it for twenty years

OK-ish pub slightly off the beaten track. Good Guinness and nice food, especially the filled Yorkshire puddings. On the other hand, the lager is poor and the seats bring new meaning to the word primitive. However, distinctly superior to some of the other pubs on Oxford Road.

I used to visit this pub everyday for a year in my first year at uni. They used to do meals for a pound and the pool table was 50p! The beer was cheap and the atmosphere good.
Just a normal local with the odd dodgy bloke trying to sell you something at the end of the bar!

This used to be my local when I worked/studied/attended/skived from/at the Uni. The best pub in Manchester as far as I am concerned, great food, great beer, great times. What a pity I moved to London village :(

A little redbrick gem tucked away behind the University, this pub is a time capsule of Hulme before the regeneration. Very Irish in character, live music always seems to be playing from the rear bar. Needless to say the Guinness is fantastic, and the food is pretty damn special too. If you get stuck in Manchester needing some cheap accommodation, the Sally takes lodgers for around 20 a night and they throw in a free breakfast in the morning to grease your hangover into submission. Your visit to Manchester would not be complete if you neglected this cultural, historical and bawdy hangout.

I used to live next door to this pub and it was a very friendly and lively local!
