Manager - Get a PS2 setup in there with Pro Evolution 3 on and watch your profits rocket. Also, theres a guy who goes in there who looks like eddie the eagle. Bar him. Also to get prfits up, start serving Super Bock. Its a quality drink and its only available from Odd bins. Get karaoke back on as well. And remove the 4 seats and table next to the games machine just to piss Joanna and Lyndsey off.

Believe me, you are not the first one to comment about that, it does not do anything for me either, ha ha

Just a little advise to the manager, I went in on Saturday night- buy your staff a uniform or at least get them to cover up.

without being petty, just so you know, all the recent comments backing the pub are being made by adam the manager with different names, hence the times - pretty much one minute after each other. pay attention to the ones around xmas

jenny - 31 Mar 2004 18:02 |
Went in on sat, it was really busy, with a mix or young and old, generally a good night, couple of fights spoilt it thoush, nice to see the boss can handle them better than the bouncers.

Ignore that fool, i think its a great pub at the weekend, toilets are not too bad, just smell a little
rob - 31 Mar 2004 17:59 |
to the annonomous sender. it is obvious to me that you have not been in the pub for some time, so how you can comment is beyond me. the seating in the pub showing foam, that is one thing that has been fixed, that was done a month ago. broken lights, please please show me, i cannot see any, in the ladies or in the gents, and i think you will find on the budget that the pub is on that it is relativly clean, it is obvious you are blind. the reason, for me being grumpy, is that a suprise when i am constantly having battles with customers who have no respect for the pub. as far as the price of some drinks, you are obviously one of those people who think that wetherspoons charges the nomal price, GET REAL !!!!!! YOU RUN THIS PUB AND LETS SEE HOW YOU COPE HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

The state of the toilets has certainly not been improved, successfully anyway. The mens are still flooded and from what I have heard there is no locks in the womens, no soap (ever) and broken lights. I have been in there a few times but pay little attention to 'cheap drinks' as it is only on certain drinks and as those prices go down other prices go up (ie. pints). Generally cleanliness of pub is low. Seats are horrificly stained all over with foam showing on many. Near enough always empty in the day, not a surprise with price of pints. Also a double vodka and redbull, how much? nearly 5. Generally for the age range of 14-22. It often feels more like a creche. Go in especially on thursday nights for a laugh at the children that are served there. But I suppose if it wasnt for them there would be no customers, so the manager obviously has to take the chance and serve them. As for the manager, he seems to like his arguments as much as the customer (I witnessed him entering into a fight and being headbutted as a result a while back), and never has a smile on his face. The staff on the whole are ok. A good few chirpy ones in the evening who like a laugh and are polite, especially the assistant manager. My advice, steer clear and don't waste your time. Wetherspoons is just across the road for cheap drinks and a nice atmosphere to start your night off, then head into town afterwards where you are a lot less likely to suffer from any bruising the next day.

Got subbutteo, can't argue with that. Nice to see Adam has picked up on the comments on here and has improved the state of the bogs. Excellent pub, go in there, highly reccommended. (Free pint for me Adam?!)

from Adam, toilets are a bit of a problem here, female toilets are ok, we do try to maintain certain standards in the gents, but due to fools on a thursday or sometimes at the weekends, some people choose to place toilet paper in the urinal which then causes them to flood when the automatic flush turns on, i assure you the majority of the liquid in the fkoor in those toilets is water not urine, and it would help if people aimed properly and treated the toilets in the same respect that they would treat thoer own.
anonymous - 1 Mar 2004 17:38 |
The toilets are a disgrace, and the beer is not the best. Its true that it is not as rough as it used to be, but i dont know about thursdays as i am too scared to in for a pound a fight since i got battered.
Bow - 1 Mar 2004 13:33 |
The toilets in this pub are swimming in urine. Apart from that its OK. Not as rough as it use to be. A few FBH's in there.
Chris - 1 Mar 2004 13:19 |
To Adam, if it is such a nice venue then why when I have been there during the day at the weekend are the staff have been slow to serve (no one behind the bar for 5 minutes) and the tables be sticky. I agree it is nicer during the day than at nights at the weekend. Why let these scallies in? Shaven heads and tattoos all round, hurrah!. Although do note that I frequent the Downs rarely (novelty value really), but the bad impression I took from it has lasted. Glad to see it's for sale anyway.
Andrew - 27 Feb 2004 13:22 |
not a bad pub actually, seems to have changes its image, whichi believe is by the hard work of the management and staff. had a great night in there on a saturday, cheap drinks, good brand too, i had bud and the missus had wkd only came to three quid, and great music, well done!!!!!
tony, timperly - 26 Feb 2004 00:35 |
i am the manager, and to hear such comments about this pub really upsets me, scallies only frequent the downs on a thursday night, due to drink promotions, which we cannot avoid, even so we have zero tolerence and it is now very rear that any fights occur, this public house during the weekend is a nice venue to have a good laugh and a good dance to a top dj.
Adam Penn Licensee - 25 Feb 2004 16:29 |
Even tho' I'm from Wythenshawe, I'm a metal fan - not a scally. No comments please.
Luke - 2 Feb 2004 22:40 |
Yes, def. full of scallies. They get shipped in by the busload from Wythenshawe (because all their pubs have been burned down!). From the bus station to the Downs is where you can expect most rowdiness, they don't venture off Stamford New Road/Railway Street much because they may venture into a pub with civilised upmarket folk.
Steer clear unless you want to witness drunken 'women' cat fighting and mix with Wythenshawe ne'er do wells with music so loud you can't hear anything after 20 minutes.
Andrew - 23 Jan 2004 16:34 |
Full of local inbred scally types, tend to think with their arses and their fists...
Luke - 20 Oct 2003 23:27 |
Welcome to the Wild Wild West.Decent beer went out of the window (along with most things Fri/Sat nights) a long time ago.Refurbished from its seedy past but still only a venue for the 18-25 group. Standard bar fare in the drinks stakes but late licence pulls in the punters.Rarely fails to "kick off" but a reasonable beer garden for the summer.Has suffered from the opening of several new pubs over the last few years but still attracts a "certain" clientele. Perhaps just right for a half on the way up to Wetherspoons
