Use to be a grate watering hole when Tom an Linda had it an hadn't been there since they moved on. Went in for dinner last week but the landlord / chef Ian was too lazy to get off his arse and said he only did lunches. Wine and lager top priced. Landlord The word around town is that since Tom and Linda went it has become known as Altrinchams gay pub. Dunno, a few iffy looking blokes in there but we left and went to the George and Dragon down the road where paying customers CAN get a meal in an evening and a cheaper pint. Dunno it that is Enterprise Brewery or landlords fault. One thing - the toilets are the pits - really dirty n stink.

I've not been in recently but have to say that the staff have always been pleasant and quick in my opinion. The atmosphere has always been brill. The beer garden/smoking area has been well thought out and even I, as an ex smoker think its an attractive addition. I'm sure Iain and Gareth are doing a great job and look forward to dropping by soon to check it out myself. I think this pub is a little gem, keep up the good work x

I used to go in here regularly. Popped back in the other week on a "crawl" and we had a good visit. At least 2 reasonable draught beers on, the food menu looked appealing and despite the inclement weather, there were plenty of people enjoying a night out (swimming in the beer garden).
I'd certainly go in again, although I'm not sure it would be somewhere I'd spend a whole evening

i totally agree with iain, this is a great pub and also the first pub I ever visited some thirty odd years ago, before going to stamford hall ,the stalybridge celtic stretford branch give it a thumbs up ,we have always had good service ,good beer (perhaps another guest please ! ) and the surroundings /decor are probably the best in Alty ,more support please ,look at the fifty odd pubs closing each week and support this one !

to who ever reads the reviews on this web site, they don't pitch a very good pitcher of the roebuck let me tell you why the people who have wrote these are heve never had a problem with me until i had good reason to bar them and ever since they have made it thier personal aim to try and ruin the pub for me and my partner,so all i ask is that you ignore these reviews and come and see for youself if you like homecooked food good wine and ale and a frienly welcomeing traditional pub thenyou might be pleasantly suprise. so please don't take the words of narrow minded people you have nothing better to do.yours faithully iain

Quite right about daytime staff. Dot however, whilst not the quickest in the world, is often left with no back-up if it does get busy which has always been the case and is fair on neither her nor the customer.

The pub has lost its old friendly character since Tom and Linda left. Ian's the new landlord and got no idea how to look after his regulars, that's why he's upsetting so many and losing them. While the gay / queers thing doesn't bother me so much, he's never around really after cooking lunches and always seems stressed out and devoid of any sense of humour unless he's making the joke. Main daytime barmaid is forever on the fruitie, half the time with Ian, or out in the beer garden having a smoke and complains like hell if someone walks in and wants serving. No wonder she's always sick and grumpy. Yet another classical example of bar staff being there so long they think they own the place and can do as they like, same as Dot on Monday and Tuesday nights. Very cliquish place, toilets are worse than a disgrace, my missus won't use them now.

Might be freshly painted outside but it's gone completely to the dogs since Tommy and Linda retired and took the ambient friendly character of the place with them. Now Ian Hocky has taken over it's a real deal gayboys bar which has driven a lot of the old, straight, regulars away. Probably due him having no sense of humour and the jocular personality of a chemotherapy ward then dressing the pub up with garish decor like some gay brothel. Main daytime barmaid Angela (read slapper) spends most of her time outside having a drag and whingeing in general. Very much a cult of the personality / cliquish pub now, lots of back-stabbing and snide gossip from bar staff, tolerated and encouraged by Landlord. Don't mention ladies or gents toilets. A proper sanitary disgrace without doubt. Food is passable to good but not cheap. Bar prices ain't too cheap either and the wine's crap. Chateau de Puff. So if you fancy a nice quiet pint, try elsewhere. We have.

I went in last monday evening, and the service was simply horrific, 8 minutes to get served in a bar with 3 customers at 9 pm, terrible, simply terrible.
The barmaid spent more time away from the bar than behind it.
The beer when it arrived wasn't too bad, but the service put me off ever returning.
No jukebox as mentioned in the previous post, now its all music played from a cd player, but a lot of the cd's are scratched and frequently skip or stick, (this happened on 2 different cd's they had playing in the space of an hour)

Ah, memories. This was a great haunt of ours. We used to enjoy the jukebox and the old school games machine, where we used to lose all our 10p's, breakout was always a great game. Nice pint of bitter, and a fine selection of snacks, if the chippy round the corner is closed towards closing. I remember it used to have brass displays - i hate brass displays!

This pub is nice and friendly if you like that sort of thing. You could spend all night watching all the weird faces and strange looking people pass you by!!! the staff are great but a bit nosey (very) and they can be a bit miserable too. but ian,dot ,linda and tommy(not that i have seen him)are fine!

A great night out with charismatic staff. It is not another wine bar nor possilbe in the 20th centaury but a place that all can relax and enjoy.

Its Emmerdale on draught, absolutely class place to start a "Pub nite" when you just cant take another bloody wine bar! Sink a couple in here, couple of hands of cards, cold beer, warm atmosphere! very well done old boy!

A pub that has hardly changed since I was legally old enough to drink. Always has decent cask ale on tap, the pub is a series of small rooms suitable for a beer and a good yarn but don't bother bringing your dancing shoes. Always good for a quiet night even at the weekend and you're never pressured or made to feel unwelcome. Seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to opening during the day
