Dreadful service. Dreadful staff. Dreadful beer, prices and food - avoid.

No longer on my list to visit in Tunbridge Wells. They don't seem to know much about keeping ale, there seems to be only one available now and it's overpriced. Visit the Bedford two minutes further down the hill if you want a proper pub

Not sure what to make of this place. Sometimes good, other times not so. Ale choice can be limited, two choices if you're lucky. It's on a par with similar places in Tunbridge Wells price-wise. Usually good for a quick pint on the way to somewhere else - popular in the summer as it's one of the only places in Tunbridge Wells with a garden

My wife and I went The Barn last night for a celebratory birthday dinner. I must say the we were more than a little disappointed.
The starters were fine, you cannot really go to wrong with deep fried brie.
Both main courses were more than a little disappointing. My wife's lamb had about an inch of fat on it. There was more fat than meat. I had the braised steak, the meat was chewy and had not flavour to it what so ever.
Then we get to dessert !!!!!!!! where do I start. My wife had a baileys cheesecake, although it was homemade the base was a digestive power, there was no crunch to it and the rest of the pudding tasted like whipped cream. I had the sticky toffee pudding with a butterscotch sauce, what a joke this was. The butterscotch sauce was just butter and a bit of syrup. The pudding part of my dessert was sitting in flapjack mix but without the oats.
This meal cost 65.00 including a bottle of wine. Needless to say we will not be going back there in a hurry.

Great pub, lovely food, good quality and reasonable prices.
Really nice garden area, but need to get there early for a seat.
Not very child friendly (No chaning area, highchairs or kids meals) but enough space outside to leave a pushchair and for kids to sit up.
Good choice of food, lovely home made burgers, large quantities of food too!
Staff not very welcoming though!

Visited the Barn last night with a group of friends and the service received made me feel strong enough to register with this website and leave comments.
I assume the bar was understaffed, assumedly a management problem, because the staff were continuously rude and stressed and couldn't wait to clear the pub out early. The empty glasses were all piled up on the bar to be washed up which they didn't have time to do and we were regularly interrupted by flustered staff telling us we were in their way.
We won't be visiting this venue again in a hurry.
I've rated the bar 3 simply for the pleasant garden area.

Was okay - nothing special. Bit antiseptic and a place to meet before moving on elsewhere. Can see the outdoor area getting busy i9n the summer.
|
Fantastic food, nice big bar. Lovely traditional pub. Bar staff a bit dim.
|
I've always liked this pub and I like it so much more now the smoking ban means you can stay for more than 5 minutes and leave without smelling like an ashtray! They usually have a good guest (Cornish Knockers from Skinners being one of the latest offerings) and the food is probably better than average, if a little unimaginative.

Have you not heard The Arctic Monkeys?
|
Can monkeys be clowns???
|
Great pub, greater garden, shame about the part time monkeys behind the bar. Perhaps the circus forgot the clowns when it left town.

there's something not quite right about this place. i can't put my finger on it, but it's in the air.
|
Overrated too smoky and music way too loud. No redeeming point to this pub.

Certainly one of the best pubs in Tunbridge Wells.Friendly staff and good selection of ales.Courtyard style outdoor seating that is a real suntrap, and cosy indoors with a nice fire in the winter months.
|
Its a good pub made all the better by friendly staff and a regularly changing guest ale.
The food has much improved since the new chef arrived, its just a shame that in redecorating they got rid of the original Barn decor.

used to be a cracking pub at one point was probably the best pub in tunbridge wells has really gone down hill

Excellent pub, particularly in the summer, San Miguel on tap, say no more.
|
Now the pub of choice for a lot of people i spend trying to avoid so i now avoid the place. The food was so bad last time that i felt compelled to complain!
|
I remember sitting out in the garden a few years ago and this man puked under one of the tables!
It's a good pub but can get too smokey.

I disagree, the food and service is great and has a really good atmosphere

Pleasant enough place. Good pedigree of people on a Friday & Saturday night (i.e no burberry or fights etc) Food and service in Restaurant is reported to have gone down hill recently which is a shame. Good selection of real ales and a nice ambience about the place.

just near where i work and i used to come for lunch on a religous basis with my then girlfriend for the lasange, very tasty. The beer is good, and the atmos is alway friendly, one of the few places without door staff because the people who go here want to sit, drink and chat and generally have a good time
