The weird thing is that the very first Wetherspoon was in Muswell Hill. Now, if you are a real ale drinker you have to go down the hill to 'The Turnpike'.
|
Closed and has been around a year supposed to be opening as a Wetherspoons later towards the end of this year.

Good news. New management -very friendly and helpful manager and bar staff unlike the fat loser who worked there before. Recommended. They wil get the custom back. Food good and beers good. Worth a visit although not been at weekend yet.
|
Hopefully the poster below is right about it being under new management. Awful place -trouble at weekends. Fat rude ignorant manager who weighs about 20 stone and reluctantly pours you a drink and slams it down before waddling off. Very expensive -15 quid for 2 large JD and cokes in tiny glasses (ie a mouthful of coke). Used to be a cracking place and hopefully will be again

This bar has completely changed. It's been bought by a new company & in January, 2012, it became under new management, a lovely aussie/london couple. No more 2 am license & best of all no more DJ. Still open 'till late on the weekends, with candles, friendly staff, decent music & decent people. Great place for a night out with friends or just you & your partner.Don't worry, pizzas are still just as good as ever.
|
This pub is ok at best. The pizzas are really good & the look of the place is spacious and clean. Got a nice area in the front i & it is great if you can get one of the tables in summer time. Beers ok standard fare. Agree with previous posters on the weekend crowds and the lack of a pub feel. Service was good though

No real ale on pump at all, just ultra-chilled lager and similar. A pint of some fizzy nonsense was ordered and the tap began spitting and frothing. The barman said he would change it, but we didn't really fancy having either the first pint of a new barrel or the dregs from the old one. The bar manager started to argue that there was plenty more 'in the pipes' but, to her credit, reacted to the unimpressive look on our faces by pouring something else. They had a two for one pizza offer. They were excellent and very good value. Two pool tables, much in demand.

An odd amount of positive comments below, but its average betrays the fact that the Village is a resoundingly mediocre bar which does not do anything to improve N10's weakness on the drinking front. I thought the service was poor (barmaid was studiously ignoring me despite my being the only person at the bar: I had to look directly at her to get her to acknowledge me), and the whole place looks like a nightclub in daytime: i.e. sticky floors, too dark etc. - I think some refurbishment would probably be worthwhile.
|
Love this bar, i'm a local and this place always has something going on. Tuesdays they do 2 4 1 pizzas all day. Thursdays 2 4 1 cocktails 'till midnight. Fridays and saturdays they're open till 2am with a DJ, no fee at the door and trainers allowed. They do happy hour everyday 5-7 as well as a lunchtime deal. Best things about this place, the stonebaked pizzas, pool tables, the large garden and friendly bar staff.
|
I dunno how I ended up in this place but it was like some kind of nightmare. I wouldn't call it a pub, more like a bathroom showroom with drinks. I ordered a round of beers and when it came to paying I asked how much I thought she was telling me the time using the 24hour clock. More like a dentists that a pub. About as traditional as flat pack furniutre.
|
Decent enough place. It's a bit like drinking in an aircraft hanger, but the pizzas are pretty good and it's a nice enough place during the day/just after work.
But be warned - on Friday and Saturday nights its like the last days of Sodom and Gomorrah in there.
|
I managed to find myself in here for happy hour(s) yesterday (17:00-19:00) and 2 pints of Fosters and a Strongbow came to 6.90.
I had to wait 10 minutes for my drinks as the barman was making cocktails and the barmaid had absolutely no awareness of who had been at the bar longest. It only takes a glance; maybe she just couldnt give a toss.
It was pretty busy for a place on a Tuesday night with people playing pool on both of the tables and others eating pizza, which looked very good.
I think they have some sort of problem with a leaking roof as there were ice buckets everywhere catching water from the ceiling.
Im not really into places that are full of high maintenance girls and blokes with man bags, but it is handy to know about the happy hour(s) and the half price cocktails on a Thursday.

Only been in here once staff were friendly they do a cracking pint of guinness in here which suprised me worth visiting if your in that neck of the woods.

The problem with Muswell Hill and its Temperance movement past is there are no good traditional boozers. This pub is OK and bar staff are friendly. At least they stop the local teenage toe-rags coming in with there over 21 door policy, so they all pile down to O'Neills The 241 pizzas are great by the way
|
The pound you were charged was for the London Air Ambulance. Last year this bar raised over 2500 for the air ambulance. It was charged because the bar had an extension that night until 1am. Now though the Village is open until 2am friday and saturdays so this won't happen again. The bar was refurbed in november. It now has 2 plasma 4 tv's and a big screen.
anonymous - 7 Feb 2006 20:26 |
Last time I went in here I got charged a pound to get in. What it was for I am not sure, anyone have any ideas? Bouncers said it was for charity so maybe but I dont think they should collect on the door. Might try this place out again see if it has changed much but I doubt it
|
It's now a BRB, with all the same things as the others - pizzas, happy hour, cocktail specials. The bar is just huge though, possibly too big to have a good atmosphere unless it gets very busy. This definitely feels more of a bar than pub, unlike some of their other places. It has a big pool table section out the back but take on the regulars at your peril.
|
When are they refurbishing the place... is everything broken...
anonymous - 13 Nov 2005 20:47 |
Been in there twice. I figured that the rude, inattentive staff may have been a one-off. They weren't. There won't be a third visit.
|
Thanks for everything Iany... miss you heaps, working with you at the Oh!Bar and then at the Village was the best thing that happened to me, I learned a lot... you and Gweny are the best. Luv'ya Guv!xx

A JD and Pepsi is 3 because it is 35ml not the usual 25ml.Therefore you get 40% more spirit than anywhere else. As for the kings head I had a meeting in their and the people before us had a problem with their food. Coincidently we had ordered the same. Their food was put in the glasswash room and 10 minutes later served to us cold! Whilst they got our order fresh from the kitchen
anonymous - 24 Jul 2005 19:27 |
My advice is, if you want a nice place to drink, walk down the hill past the Village (where a JD & Pepsi-"they don't have Coke" costs 3 +) and go to the Kings Head (Crouch End) much cooler and has live music on occasion. If it must be Muswell Hill check out The Victoria Stakes (bottom of the hill towards Aly Paly) has far more character, has a cool outback conservatory for drinking & dining, and doesn't cost you a remortgage for a round!!!

I'm a big fan of The Village. Gets very popular in warm weather, but plenty of outside space and the food is very good. It's a good winter pub too - cosier than it looks inside. Good for a relaxing Sunday lunch with the papers.
anonymous - 12 Jul 2005 23:06 |
ive been in here twice and each time, found it a bit unfreindly, the weekend nights are full of chavs and it felt a bit like being in the staff canteen. On the good side, they have a huge great oven on show, where they make pizzas, and the staff were quite pleasant. More of a meeting up place than anything else.Food was good, but a bit slow on arriving.I will go there again, but not for all night.
|
great pub, great beer, great staff...no chavs! no miserable staff! no harsh lighting! Im glad i found this little gem, when i first moved to muswell hill a year ago... been goin ever since
anonymous - 17 Jun 2005 01:59 |
The Village has an over 21's policy that has been there since it opened plus dress codes. How anyone can say that it is a "chav pub" is beyond belief. The guy must be blind especially if he thinks the decor is harsh on the eyes and if he thought it was too bright I would suggest he was seated in the conservatory area on a sunny day with a terrible hangover especially as his comment was posted on a monday! The Village gave Muswell Hill what it needed and made the other pubs react to varying degrees.
anonymous - 13 Jun 2005 21:43 |
Great place for a beer and a pizza, even more in the summer, with the garden outside.
anonymous - 4 Jun 2005 13:35 |
Really nice pub/bar...went for the first time a couple of days ago and will be back - the staff were really nice and food was great!
anonymous - 6 Apr 2005 11:02 |
This is a retro chav pub. It is full of unemployed actors who think they are the next big thing to hollywood and are well and truly up their own rear end its a very harsh pub the lighting is very bright and it the decor is harsh on the eyes. Its ok if your 16 cheap and nasty and full of muswell hill billys
|
Love it -I go here all the time and I'm a lawyer not a chav- friendliest and most welcoming place I've visited in ages!
anonymous - 27 Mar 2005 16:05 |
The Village is fantastic...I dont know what the 'anonymous' person has against this place, it is not bad at all! as for the pine/chrome comment, i drink here every day and there is not one piece of pine/chrome in the building!
The staff are really friendly and knowledgable, the food is great and there are lots of non-chav locals who use this pub frequently - resulting in by far the best pub in muswell hill.
anonymous - 27 Mar 2005 16:02 |
Why do I get the impression almost everyone posting here works for or knows someone who works for this Chav Temple!
Full of underclass, Lynx wearing chavs and chavettes who cant walk properly, what is it with that swagger dudes?
Nice cheap girls on offer wearing lovely plastic earings and a butch pool table for the boys to pose over.
Well worth the free entry fee. Its cheaper than than the zoo but its educational to see how people were before the rest of us evolved.
anonymous - 8 Mar 2005 12:57 |
Capital of Chav and a total disgrace to the otherwise lovely Muswell Hill. Particularly bad during the weekends when North London's riffraff comes out to play in force sporting precision shaving and "designer" hair dos. Tearing this dive down would be a significant step in the right direction.
anonymous - 6 Mar 2005 14:05 |
I work next door and eat there every day... the pizzas are light and fantastic... but yeah... if you are a builder and need to feel your belly full and havy... La Porchetta is a good option. I think the Village is GREAT!!!
anonymous - 5 Mar 2005 23:00 |
Oh, and another thing.... the pizzas are sh!te! Interesting range of toppings, but usually small and burnt. Might as well buy a supermarket pizza and take it to a crematorium.
Grow some tastebuds and get to La Porschetta.
|
An impressively soulless pine/chrome chav hell-hole. As a bloke you feel like a misfit if not sporting starched shirt and designer facial hair. As a girl I imagine you feel like a misfit if your braincells outnumber your enormous hooped earrings. Okay if you like that sort of thing.
|
not just a great place to go, is the best place to work as well, thankx to Ian & Gwen... luv'yaa guys! XXX

I was there last night and they are having a photo exebition, very good idea, we enjoy a promotion of pizzas, have a good game of pool and we also feed our cultural side. Congratulations to the management.
Stuart Parsons - 12 Oct 2004 14:46 |
The pizza oven is so cool, and it makes the difference in the pizza taste... nice staff, modern buzzer system (no confusions), and they have blanc!!!
Terius - 29 Aug 2004 20:52 |
Gorgeous fajita pizza!!! Top quality place. They just need to stay open till late and then Musweel Hill will be a perfect place to live.
Joe - 22 Aug 2004 16:35 |
the staff there are just soooooo nice, I had a problem with a woman trying to still my bag, and they were all so friendly, the manager was so helpfull... the safest place to be in north london.
anonymous - 22 Aug 2004 16:32 |
The best thing about the Village... toilets!!! You don't have to hold your breath before geting in there, no people felling sick, you don't have to bring tissues from home. And you always see one staff checking around. Heaven.
anonymous - 3 Aug 2004 21:34 |
Nice music, great food, lovely staff, quality wines (and the staff actualy know what are they talking about ). My third day there and the assistant manager (lovely brazilian girl) knew my name and my drink.BRILLIANT!!!
Andy - 3 Aug 2004 21:25 |
Souless bar full of coke drinking 'rude boys'. Clueless barstaff and no atmosphere. I would suggest O'Neills around the corner.
anonymous - 2 Jul 2004 20:18 |
quality place. relaxed atmosphere. seems full of trendy good looking people (me being neither) but really friendly atmosphere. good music. good food.
being sick and tired of going into pubs full of "rudeboys" who r looking for trouble, this place is a breath of fresh air in north london.
places as nice as this are few and far between.
people actually TALK to you and dont think you are mad or trying to start a fight if you talk to them.
lovely place, i went for the first time a few weeks ago and i will definatly be going back.

Revamped into the village in 2001, spacious and light with proper pizza oven and pool tables. Lacks atmostsphere.
Dan - 14 May 2004 11:56 |
The village is good if you're a young, trendy pop idol wannabe. the staff is good looking. A bit of a souless atmosphere though.
Mia - 4 May 2004 01:33 |
The Villgae is The Best!! Me and my friends go there mostly every Friday and Saturdays... staff are sooo nice and fit!! especially a beautiful girl called reanna!
Jon - 10 Apr 2004 21:17 |
An excellent bar. I really enjoyed my night here - the staff were friendly and knew what they were talking about, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly - overall an absolute pleasure! 10 out of 10!

What a joy !! Spent a whole nite in the village and its great, plenty of tottie especially the one behind the bar called Gwen (wow)
cameron - 4 Mar 2004 02:36 |
Just been to the village for the first time...and its now going to be my local! it is really nice - the staff are lovely, the food excellent and the atmosphere is really relaxed and friendly. candles on the tables and big sofas make it so cosy. 10 out of 10.
anon - 28 Feb 2004 21:19 |
Good place for birdwatching at weekends. Feels a bit too big and empty the rest of the time. Cocktails are good here.
Andrew - 12 Feb 2004 09:20 |
Fantastic, great food, very friendly staff and they have San Miguel and Kronenbourg Blanc on draught plus bottled belgium beers and carlton crown. Beer garden at front is excellent in summer to sit and watch the Muswell Hillites go by. Whole place screams quality!
Ian - 28 Jan 2004 12:39 |
Totally agree with all of these comments. I was instantly impressed with the Village!
Cornelius - 24 Jan 2004 18:39 |
brilliant! really nice atmosphere..very nice place to spend an evening.
anon - 21 Dec 2003 17:14 |
love it...2 4 1 cocktails on thursdays and 2 4 1 pizza on mondays-bargain! really nice staff and atmosphere with no idiots knocking about (rare for muswell hill!!). definately 9 out of 10.
sarah - 11 Oct 2003 22:15 |
Pizza bar..absolutely massive and positively crammed with totty. North London's gash central.
