user reviews of the Quay, Wareham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Popular due to its location by the river. Purbeck IPA, TT Landlord and Ringwood Razorback were on sale as well as 2 local ciders in boxes. Decent enough start to a pub crawl in the town.

As below, we thought this place had a fairly good selection of beers and ciders, but I find places like this (that have been set up almost entirely for dining) to be very un-pubby and cold in feel, due to the matching furniture, laminate flooring and whitewashed walls.

Amazed that this place has only average reviews. It seems a far above average place, with good choice of beers (Timothy Taylor, Ringwood, etc.) as well as still ciders. The food was excellent, the service well above the ordinary, and the location a very good one. A very friendly place too. 7.5/10

Came in here for lunch. Good service and around 4 ales on draught, as well as ciders and also 2 scrumpy ciders behind the bar. Food was not bad, but not great either. Friendly staff and a good location.

In here last Saturday about mid day and about half a dozen others in.
Two bars with one side set for diners. A few bar stools could be used though.
6 hand pulls split 3/3 on each side of the bar.
Only 2 ales on at the time Tim Taylors Landlord & Ringwood Best Bitter.
I try a pint of the latter which is ok and cost £3.40.
Some piped music is playing and the large plasma screen is showning the BBC News Channel (Corbyn's victory speech-sound turned down thank God!!)
In the GBG 2015.

The Quay was our first pub for a long weekend in Dorset. It was reasonably busy on Friday evening. There are 2 rooms and a pleasant garden at the rear. The front looks out over the river and the town's bridge. There is a pay and display car park there too. Service was friendly. Ales were Ringwood Best, Timothy Taylor Landlord & Isle of Purbeck Studland Bay Wrecked. There were also 2 ciders from the Purbeck Cider Company - Dorset Dabinett & Joe's Dry. We enjoyed a nice meal whereby you cook your own steak, prawns or chicken on hot stones.

Set back from the river this is a small pub but has a large outside drinking area out the back and tables and benches at the front, tried the Ringwood best in here which was a nice pint.

Pleasant and efficient bar staff.

Went there with wife and kids. Main man seemed kind and friendly. Bar staff were helpful. Sat in the back garden/ courtyard, and had some good pub grub off the specials board. Beer was excellent, as was the Pimms!! Would defo return. Better than some of the pubs in Corfe that I won't mention!!!!

I've been since 2008.Three of us stopped by for a drink one early afternoon.Despite the sunny day and its proximity to the river it was otherwise empty.Beer was okay, nothing special, but one of my companions was given a glass that was absolutely filthy.Barman didn't seem overly bothered by the fact that the glass was covered in fingerprints and lipstick marks but gave him a new pint immediately. We sat outside in the sunshine, but you are right next to a public carpark,so it's not quite as idyllic as it might be.Nothing particularly wrong with the place, but I probably wouldn't go again as it is mainly a tourist pub and there are much nicer pubs in Wareham.

Has anyone been here since 2008? Went nearby a couple of days ago but didn't go in as there was no time but did look quite busy so couldn't be that bad.

Calling into this pub one chilly october evening to find the bar staff all wearing roll neck jumpers. Because it was extremely cold in the bar. There was what I can only describe as a 'peculiar and unpleasant' smell in the air too. The draught lager was average, but the ale was better kept.

Overall, i'm again very unimpressed with this pub, it just doesnt appear to be very welcoming.....

The Quay is now under new ownership/management & while the service, beer quality, interior of the pub and the back yard are a million times better than they were before they are now serving "hot rock grills" which fill the pub with smoke & cooking odours... asthmatics & people who enjoy breathing should beware!! nearest clean air pub is the Black Bear

We booked a room here about six weeks in advance of our stay, we called a week before the stay to confirm that they were aware of the booking, we were told yes, everything was fine.

2 days before our proposed stay we were called by the Quay to say that they had a letter from a regular customer saying that they had not booked all the days they needed for their stay at the Quay, and that they would need an extra day..... hence a call to us to cancel our 1 nite stay booked 6 weeks earlier????

Very poor service, if you still wish to book a room here make sure you have a reserve room at another hotel.

Also we complained to the manager of the pub, they said they were a private establishment, we found out that they were actually part of a chain through internet research, we complained to them and found that they were severely lacking in customer service too.

Nice, friendly unpretentious pub, with live music and entertainment.

Afore-mentioned changes in management make it difficult to comment on food.

Recently tried to have lunch here but were told that that the chef was out, and to try the pub across the road! - not even attempted to offer us a sandwich or a drink. Absolutely disgusting customer service (in my opion).
Which is a shame as I enjoyed a very good night here in the late 1998!

What a find we went to this area for a break from the hetic business life and came across this pub on a saturday afternoon, its located in a beautiful area overlooking a river the pub retains its traditional look and the staffing were very inviting, the place was quiet but still had a wonderful atmoshphere, we were served promptly and made to feel welcome by the bar staff, the food menu look interesting, unfortunatley we had eaten shortly before, a nice pub in a nice village definatley a place to go again next summer, i expect a very popular local pub would recommend a visit

Great shame this, its a chain pub that is currently awaiting a regular landlord, the several managers that have been there have not had the heart to bring it back to its former glory. First impression, hanging baskets empty and hanging off the walls, paint cracked and peeling and dirty paved area to the front, a solitory sign promises good food, but kinda gives the impression that its desperate. Inside they stock Ringwood which is good but the pint is average, the place stinks of smoke and when I ordered my food, the cook? was hesitant to get off her bar stool, put her fag out and go to work. Landlord told me to wait to be served as he was washing glasses. Struck me as a "Chav" pub with baseball caps and football shirts on the few customers. Not all the pubs fault, the council should get rid of the car park at the front and turn it into a water frontage by the river. Such a waste. Enterprise Inns and Wareham council SORT IT OUT!

In accordance with site policy I will tell this as I found things.
Beer was terrible, not poorly kept just rubbish beer.
Food was some of the poorest I have ever experienced, had children serving us I mean 8-9 year olds. Health and hygiene practices were unmentionable on this site but I guess you get my drift.
Toilets were disgusting.
I challenge anyone to drink a bottle of the raspberry wine.
This place is living of its, location.

Had to stop in here one afternoon after encountering eight (EIGHT!) snakes whilst walking the banks of the river Frome.

It was a quiet, rainy Wednesday afternoon sdo it was quiet quiet but the staff and locals were friendly and the beer was nice. I'd go back ,for sure.
