'Modern' Youngs outlet. Nothing to write home about. Sky TV. The beer was 'passable'. Won't go out of my way to visit again.

Big spacious Youngs pub with wide range of seating areas. 2 Gusest ales as well as 4 from Wells & Youngs range. Offers discounts for card carrying Camra members

A youngs pub , but with a few guest beers that included one from Teignworthy and one from Yeovil ,stargazer. The latter was readily supped , and I also had a youngs special. Quality was good in fairness. A large if somewhat limited range. Prices not exorbitant , but you can get cheaper beer in town. Large pub with pool table. Has a bit of a city centre feel to it. There are better pubs than this in town , but you could do a lot worse.

A large pub situated just around the corner from Corn Street. Inside it seems to struggle a bit with its identity being a mix of different areas a fairly non-descript bar area at the front, another area that looks like a hotel lounge, yet another that looks like a gentlemans club with rows of books lining the shelves, and then a games area at the rear with a couple of pool tables and even a pinball machine.
It was very quiet on a recent Thursday evening visit, no doubt due to the extremely bad (and loud) singing from the punters trying their hand at the karaoke. Then again it may have been the prices putting people off - 7.25 for one of their own beers and a Vodka & Orange seems a bit steep.
Theres a covered outside area which is handy for the smokers, and several fake fireplaces, i.e.; fire places that were once real, but have been filled with a selection of twigs and fairy lights. What is that about? Food wise there was a board listing a good selection of burgers which seem to be something of a speciality. Im not sure what else was on offer.
There seemed to be a good choice of beers on tap, and the Ram Rod that I had seemed pleasant enough, although Im no expert on these things. Besides that, the other beers on tap were Bombadier, Youngs Bitter, Bristol Beer Factorys Acer and Black Sheep. It looks as though they usually have Doom Bar as well, although that was off on our visit. Ciders were Thatchers Gold, Blackthorn, Strongbow and Thatchers Pear.

Ruined a great pub - congratulations Youngs

MY 1ST EVER ZERO!!!
Why not have a pint of coke cos the ale's rancid or your car's outside- that'll be 3.60(!) for Pepsi then- from a gun with the syrup nearly run out- with no please or thanx- with no ask of ice or no ice(so you get loads in it to reduce the capacity)- served by a scruff in a dirty t-shirt.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

ALL ales cloudy last night. Not good enough.

Friendly Service And Comfy Seating And A Nice Pint Of Winter Warmer(even if it is from bedford!!) 9/10

Young's have done a good job of strangling the life out of this once hugely popular, idiosyncratic pub. Now just another corporate clone - Young's own brands even muscled out the recent "local ales festival", outnumbering them by four to three when I went in. "Beiged up" sums it up perfectly. And they don't even show the cricket any more.
|
Recently "beiged up" by Youngs - result no atmosphere, no decent cider and no chance of me ever going in the again. I thought the breweries gave up ruining pubs in the 90's?! Still no doubt they'll get the yank tourists in from the big hotel up the road.

Manager who kept place barely presentable has gone, think he's unwell. Wasn't the worse bloke in the world. Get well soon mate if you tune in.

Haven't visited here for a while, but as I recall a very large Victorian-inspired pub, all in dark wood. Busy, cosmopolitan and worth a punt, reasonable Young's ale is served here. It is something of a local real ale mecca, although I rather thought that it has been less-deserving of this status since it became a Young's place. Young's beer just doesn't translate well in Bristol and why drink that when there's so many good local brews to quaff elsewhere. It is a shame because this was, briefly, a cracking free house serving around 8-9 beers before Young's got hold of it. Still, not to be sniffed at and certainly far worthier than most of its nearby city centre counterparts.

Large city centre pub which sells a wide range of real ales and quality ciders - Cheddar Valley aka Um Bongo is a fave! Tucked away in the old city near to the last remaining gate of the old city wall (St Johns Gate) near Corn Street (but a million miles away from the townie hell of most of the bars around it). Just goes to show you don't have to cater for alcopop drinkers to have a decent town centre pub.
