bjbrummiejohn:

It's Arabic for infidel, and slang S. African, coarse, for any black person.

But it's not being used against anyone, it's the name of a pub. I'd be a bit perplexed, probably offended, if anyone called me a "Turk's Head", "Brewer's Dray", "Hole In The Wall" or almost anything else our pubs are often called.

Call me old fashioned but isn’t the name of this pub a bit politically incorrect??
In here last Saturday about 2pm and a few others in here too.
It nice enough with a mixed interior of furniture and flooring.
They have a pool table and some piped music was playing with a TV showing Horse racing.
Just the two hand pulls for Wells Bombedere and Marstons Pedegree.
I had a pint of the latter which was quite nice and cost £3.20

Went here on the offchance yesterday as they had a large sign advertising a childrens play paddock. Equipment was old, dirty and broken. The lager I had tasted vaguely of line cleaner and my partners draught white wine was truly awful. From memory this used to be a good welcoming pub and eatery. Not any more..............

My partner and i have visited this pub for a meal on two occasions in the last few months. Once in the week and once for sunday lunch. I can honestly say that this is some of the best food i've ever tasted. The sunday carvery proved excellent value for money, where as the starter we had during the evening meal proved to be a meal in itself. I can recommend the farmhouse sausage and mash or the pate as an excellent choice for starters, just make sure you've got a healthy appetite!!
