please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Noticed this handsome looking pub from the Taxi and worth the short trip back out town for.

Fullers range - offering their range. The ESB was as good as I have had anywhere.

Setup for dining and football watching. Even both at the same time.

Good pub.

Lovely Pint of London Pride. Also available was HSB, Chiswick Ale and Brewery Brags. Could have done with more Bar Staff early evening on a Friday only one Barman on! (See Beer Spotters remarks of a year ago). Seems to be a Sports Bar with several TV's and Music. Will definately be making a return visit as this is one of the better pubs in the Town.

Seems like a good spot. Called in just after Christmas 2012 and found it friendly enough if a bit "shouty" regarding a televized darts match. Funny, isn't it? Had it been a real match, I wouldn't have been at at all bothered! Anyway, my mum's just settled in round the corner off Easthampstead Road, so I expect I'll be an at least an" occasional" regular when I'm down from York!

I went there on Jubilee Sunday at about 2PM with my wife and 4 good friends. It wasn't really busy but the food took 30 minutes to arrive. Frankly if it wasn't for the charming bar staff we would have walked out:

Fish and chips - fish looked like the oven version we cook at home and chips quite tasty but only nine per serving!

Burger - probably the best meal but nothing to write home about.

Club sandwich - really quite disgusting with very little filling and plain white sliced bread instead of the advertised ciabatta.

This place needs a new chef - the food was much better a couple of months ago.

Not recommended unless you just want to try the excellent range of ales.

Went in last Friday night to find the usual queue at the bar. Once served had a good pint of Gales HSB. Very popular place and hard to find a seat inside.

used to be my local, but not anymoor far to expensive.better pubs in nam

Good beer, but very expensive e.g. ESB (5.5%) - 3.65; London Pride - 3.45. Sadly, all Fullers pubs seem to be going this way.
cadoxton_conner - 12 Jan 2012 17:30
OK pub but not as good as it was. The Fullers ales are well kept and are always on form.
(This pub always smells though and the gents toilets are regularly flooded. I hope these two things aren't related!)

Not bad, not as good as it was a few years ago. Quite often go there with the mrs after a day at the office, food a bit bland, and they always mug her off with cheap white wine. not safe

Another visit last evening. The place was quieter than usual and the licensees were not in evidence (Tuesdays must be their night off). 5 beers on - the Festival Mild had just run out - but the HSB and Hock were very good. HOWEVER, the food was truly awful. My wife ordered the fishcakes - they had none so she had a medium steak but wanted a salad instead of chips. The steak was overcooked and not very warm, the salad was from lunchtime (the tomato was completely tasteless) and the grilled tomato and mushroom from the menu was missing. My sharing platter was a bit better but lukewarm sausage and burnt chorizo not good at all. Will not return to eat only for a beer in future. Going downhill, seems very amateurish. Great shame, a far cry from the days of Brian and Emma.

Visited the Ship again recently. Disappointed that the Bengal Lancer was not ready, but both the Pride and the ESB were in excellent condition. Good food, too. One barmaid friendly and efficient, the other with a face like a wet weekend. Shame.

Still doing well. Very busy early Saturday evening but the service was efficient and friendly. The clientele were also very friendly giving a nice atmosphere. Only tried the seasonal ale - Jack Frsot - a bit pricey at 3.15 for a 4.5% beer, but a lovely beer in good nick.

A Fullers house with a large range of beers including guests. Beer quality was good.

Getting back to form, and now back in the Good Beer Guide. The seasonal ale IPA was on last night and was to die for. Wayne and Linda are doing a fine job.
metrology_man - 18 Sep 2009 08:49
Looks like a guest is back (Butcombe Bitter on 12/07). Both my pints (HSB and ESB) were fine. Good stuff. Still miss Emma & Brian though!

Fine pub but seems to be lacking that extra "something" it had when Emma and Brian were in charge. Guest beer (Hampshire King Alfreds) available on our visit, quite good, and the Pride was good without being outstanding. Bar staff seemed very rushed and the landlady was relaxing in the garden!
metrology_man - 18 Jul 2008 10:02
Sad that licensees Brian and Emma have moved on - they really made this pub into a must-visit. I wish them well.

Tonight's visit found the guest/seasonal ale missing (why? They proved it would sell!), with the range being Pride, ESB and Discovery. Quality is still good though.

Still worth a visit, but no longer essential now the guest/seasonal appears to have been dropped.

Now under new management, but not much has changed. Good food, friendly atmosphere, good mix of clientele and above all excellent beer. The benchmark for London Pride in the area. Well done, Kathy!

Had a fantastic pint here last time I was in town, very good value.....
festivalboy - 23 Nov 2007 13:58
Great Pub, good food, reasonably priced, beer quality is always good in this Fullers pub.
Godrinker - 7 Jul 2007 22:54
This is without doubt the best pub in Wokingham. Fantastic food, a mixed client base which makes it comfortable and relaxing without being too much like an old mans pub, great GREAT plasmas screens for sports buffs, a brilliant choice of wines, beers and lagers. All in all brilliant. In the winter they get the open fire pumping out some heat! A dartboard for those who want to step up to the ockey (?). Outside seating in earshot of the church......

Okay, may be another 10p or so on the pint.....but well worth it! My favourite.
thebigboss - 2 May 2007 13:34
Best Pub in Wokingham, and the best price for Pride,

Buy a 4 pint Jug of Pride for 9.75.
emma.rhoyds - 26 Feb 2007 11:51
Great Pub,

Brian & Emma (landlord & landlady) and staff very friendly. Beer is a bit expensive thou.

For food try the "Home made" Beef/Steak burger, best I have ever tasted.

Very Good Pub
johngalla - 4 Dec 2006 13:11
An excellent pint of Hock last night. The beer quality here is always superb and the landlords are very friendly!

I doubt your going to get air con in this building I'm afraid, lisabean, I think it's listed in some way. Best ask for the windows to be open!
tobo - 2 Oct 2006 17:22
Best pint of London Pride I've had for ages! Nice pub. Tried a few other pubs in Wokingham on the way back to the station but was too bladdered by then to remember much about them! Good place for a crawl ;-)
Orinoko - 6 Sep 2006 14:03
i like it!

nothing special here, but a friendly atmosphere!

sort out the air-con though

outside bar is cute!

quiz is too hard!
lisabean - 22 Jul 2006 13:28
Sports Bar? Not really, they just show the football/rugby, like a lot of places.

Still a great place to go in Wokingham, although quite pricey. But the real ale is always spot-on, so you get what you pay for in that respect.

Bryan and Emma are doing a great job here.
Quinno - 12 Jul 2006 22:15
They've updated it yet again to make the bar more of a sports bar; it doesn't work and has lost any character it previously had. Whilst in there over the weekend had to sit behind a group of racists very loudly airing their aryan views. The bar staff didn't ask them to quiet down either.
Trapdoor - 29 Jan 2006 20:36
Excellent Fuller's pub. Friendly staff, with a cracking quiz on a Sunday. Loads of atmosphere with a well-kept Fuller's ale range, decent food and mixed clientele. Best proper pub in Wokingham without a doubt.
Quinno - 23 Aug 2005 22:19
Great pub, good food, quick service and a nice atmosphere. Hopefully it's too far away from the station to go the way of many other Wokingham pubs.
Wixy - 20 Jan 2004 11:06
Reasonable prices, friendly staff, lots of space inside and out, and since it's been re-furbished it's beeeeeeeeautiful.
