Paid my first visit to the pub while having a walk around Kennington Park (beware - there is a bin for putting weapons in located in the CHURCHYARD!). Can only agree with the previous posters: nice pint of Young's. I paid with my debit card and the server nicely arranged to charge me £10 and give me the change in dosh! Like it!
Two biggish LED screens in use, showing the usual Sky Sports News cos nothing else was on, but there is a proper pull-down screen available too.

Perfectly serviceable booster, fairly unremarkable but a very good pint of Youngs. Convenient for a pint after watching that Pietersen character annihilate the Leicestershire bowling.
|
Popped in here for during lunch while at the cricket. Had the best pint of Youngs Ordinary I've had in years, even if it was around 3.30 a pint. They also had Bombardier on.
Don't know if it serves food.
You can sit outside on a side street on garden furniture which is pleasant if the weather's good.

Very quiet when I visited at 11.30 am, so makes it difficult to judge, but first impressions were that this is a relaxed, friendly, locals pub - perhaps with an irish flavour ( although that's based on the barman and the one other customer ). Beer was in good nick, and this is the nearest pub to the Oval - although if I'm being honest I prefer the Greyhound.

Always a pleasant pub, postioning and running.

Popped in last night straight from the Fentiman. Always a very clean, well run pub with plenty of space in and out. Good for watching sports coverage to. Worth alighting from the Northern line at the Oval for a drink when ever. Safe pub as Jack Straw lives just behind the place in the wee square; worth knowing if you need an armed Policeman to shoot any suspect passing terrorists who might be disturbing your enjoyment.

Always busy before and at intervals at the cricket. Not a bad pub but not one I'd go out of my way to use.
Full credit to the barman. I forgot my change but he kept it aside and returned it when I enquired, which was very pleasant. We drank outside in the street and the same barman was hurrying around collecting glasses. Keep hold of that fella as he's a grafter and honest which is refreshing when so many people in the business seem to think they are doing the customer a favour.
Will no doubt have my customary pint in there the next time I visit The oval

Fairly uninteresting interior, but friendly place. A couple of aleas on.

use this pub every wednesday nite , great sports pub . excellent service and very well run.

A few of us popped in this afternoon as a break from cricket at the Oval. The pub seemed pleasant enough and the Adnams bitter was fine, but the whole thing was spoilt by the radio played at an excessive volume. After a polite request the sound was turned down for a while only to be raised again shortly afterwards. There were not a lot of other customers at the time and we quickly established that none of them wanted the radio on. Despite this knowledge and a further polite request the lady behind the bar said that if we don't like it we can go elsewhere. So we did and we won't go back. Why do pubs treat their customers with such contempt? Most definitely not recommended.

I like this place.
It is more for a quick pint before or after train journeys but always seems well run, good mix of punters and ALWAYS has the footy on :)
|
Paddy Briggs is totally correct - got charged 3.80 for a premium lager before the last test against India
I used to often drop in here for a sharpener before the cricket but probably won't bother again
|
Absolutely outrageous profiteering today by this pub. Beer is normally priced at around 2.70 / 2.80 a pint. Today Youngs ordinary was 3.50 a pint. The explanation given by the bar staff was that prices have increased "whilst the Oval cricket is on". This is an outrage!

top boozer. i've been barred twice but they love me really. very good for sports and a singsong.

not a bad local pub. big screens for sport. nothing special about it, attracts a bit of a eng-er-land crowd for the football. if you just want a local this could be your cup of tea. for a bit of character head to the pubs in kennington, for a lively time head to clapham/camberwell, for food and a different experience go to the portugese tapas bars on lambeth road.

The staff are extrememly good, and so is the beer. I think it s a bit dear for its location, but it does have lots of big plasma screens. In fact I've seen people come in during a lunch break during a Test match and never go back to the Brit Oval. The food is of a high quality. The manager has done very well because ~10 yera sago this pub was a right dump.

Pleasant South London pub. Lots of locals adding an atmosphere of laughter and lots of big screens showing sport. Good beers, average London prices and a cricket ball's throw from the Oval.
I'm going to watch the Champions League Final tonight, can't think of many places round there better to watch a game as a neutral.
|
Bog standard pub. Usual range of beers etc. Nice area to sit outside. Oh, and of course handy for the Brit Oval. 5/10.

Nice friendly pub where you are always welcome, barmaids are quite nice to. You get a mixture of people ranging for instance from a penny to a pound. Nice atmosphere and sports are always on. Great stuff.
|
Near the Oval cricket ground and opens up early on big match days so is an ideal meeting point. Nice looking pub and decent beer.
|
I have been banned from the pub for being an arsenal supporter!!! I live nearby and often have a drink there but obviously never again. I would like to point out that i was not drunk, was on my own and am a female of nearly thirty! I am offended that cheering my eam on could upset he barman to such a degree!
