This is an astonishingly good little pub. Quite a surprise! Hidden in a back street, it offers excellently kept beer, very competent staff and a wonderful atmosphere. Food exists alongside the pub, rather than its focus. (It's a burger operation based in the *garden* which means the place doesn't stink of food!) Occasional music is usually very good. There's a regularly changing art display. The customers all seem friendly and interesting; your dogs are welcome; there's usually something happening and it feels like a pub should be ~ nicely eclectic, warm, clean and safe. I really like it.

What a great little gem of a pub. i had never been there before but i had a genuine friendly welcome from the rather attractive landlady called Vanessa [i blushed] It has a great cosy feel to the pub and the food and drink [they do a tapas menu] were great. Despite geting ready for a music evening the staff still found time to be friendly and the live band [a crazy jazz combo but good fun] turned a quiet night out into quite something. i am new to deal but have found my local!

Brilliant little Shepherd Neame pub. I had a lovely pint of orangeboom, served by the best looking woman I have ver seen, on the start of a pub crawl with 5 of my mates.
Only stayed for one, but it seemed like a very decent pub all in all.....

i dont know if i was in a differant pub to the one everyone above has been to but have not been made very welcome by Chris or Jeff. chris always seems to have a face like thunder to anyone who isnt a local and often gives you a dirty look if you are waitign to be served and she has to drag her self away from conversing with a regular punter. i get the feeling that unless your a proper local (born in deal) or frequent the Deal Hoy at least twice a week, for at least the next 2 years then your not worth a smile. Also make sure you count your change and know how much your round actualy costs. went in at the weekend and my first round cost 7.40 male member of staff short changed me almost a pound from a tenner in 10p's & 20p's, lucky i checked. Then when my mate got the second round in identical round same barman, charged 6.60 ?? BEWARE.

What a fantastic little pub!!!!!!
Never have I or my partner been made to feel so welcome so quickly. Chris and Jeff are both superb as are the rest of the staff!
Music selection is wide and there's something for everyone. They've even converted me into a real ale drinker!!!!

Popped in as the starting point of a Deal crawl. Being a Sheps' establishment, beers on offer were the ubiquitous Master Brew and Spitfire, both served in fine condition. I went for the seasonal Whitstable Bay Organic Ale - also in excellent form.
This pub never ceases to impress, with its friendly and efficient staff, and chatty locals.
It maintains a good, solid 7/10

Excellent pub, much missed since we moved to Manchester. Jeff and Chris are great, the crowd is friendly and the atmosphere wonderful. This is how pubs should be.

The best Shepherd Neame pub I've ever visited, and a vast improvement on the grotty little back-street boozer I first visited thirty years ago.
It's bright, airy with a nice relaxing atmosphere. The garden has been opened up and barbecues take place in summer.
A credit to Jeff & Chris.

The Deal Hoy is a pleasant and charming place, tucked away at the end of Duke Street close to Deal town centre.
The pub is not huge, but has a good feel. All over the pub there are shelves full of various curios old books, bottles, pottery, etc and although the pub has no jukebox, the extensive music collection adds a great deal of atmosphere. The landlords, Jeff and Chris, care about their customers' drinking experience.
The Hoy is a good place to relax with friends. The pub is located at 16 Duke Street, Deal, Kent.
