Yep. Been back many a time. Just hven't been on this site. Great beers (though S&N could allow more guests...); good atmosphere; good landlady. nd the place is getting busier again. A proper pub. Though the TV doesn't need to be on...

This is dreadful now. Absentee landlord, low stock, poor barstaff, dirty smelly toilets. What's happened to the place? God I hope the lease is up soon and someone buys it who knows what they're doing.

You're talking about The Cumberland Arms. Boy must you have had a few!
The Collingwood is like a good country pub in the city but just outside the centre and off the beaten track - at least off enough to be away from the crap.
New (ish) owner needs to ensure that his guest pumps are always on, although four out of five isn't bad. Has to put an end to the 'music' night on Saturdays. Completely out of place and ruins the atmosphere.

A grand historical pub at the east end of Byker Bridge. Fine view outside of Ouseburn with the Cluny down the bank or Freetraders if you head towards the river. Take your time savour this lovely pub which Oz Clarke and James May visited. a rare piece of common sense from those two.

I like Osbournes, its got happy hour,, and nice staff and easy to get too, loads of saucy men, not based on any particualr age group like the atmosphere

What on earth has happened? A real pub running short of ale on Saturday night? Sounds like this place many years ago before the previous landlord got his act together.... Never mind the new upholstery, look after the beer too. And what was that smell of fat from the kitchen when they decided to sell burgers one Saturday night? Disgusting. This pub had a good clientele - a mix of students and locals (okay, many of the locals were ex-students or uni staff, but I'm not splitting hairs). The last Saturday I was in, it was virtually empty. You can't rely on rugby and football games to keep the place ticking over. Pull your finger out before it's too late and it's taken over by someone who'll turn it into some place rotten like the pub up the road.

So far, I'm impressed. A landlord that smiles and serves great beer - but it's a little on the cold side for real ale, so take care there. Hope he tidies the bogs up soon. My local and I enjoy it!

Under New Management - and doesn't it show! The new landlord (young Scott) is certainly getting it right in terms of creating a great atmosphere for new and existing customers to enjoy the fine ales and wines. Tuesday's Quiz night is new and great fun. A traditional pub in the 21st century - well done!

Can't argue with you.

Superb pub. The beer is excellent, there is always Timothy Taylors and Duechars, as well as about 5 guest ales which change fairly frequently. Great atmosphere. The landlord seems like a nice bloke to me!

strange lal wee pub this. discovered it over the wknd whilst walking from gosforth into newcastle and decided to check it out with me girlfriend a couple of days later to find it it was actually very pleasant with almost an unatural vibe for a pub these days - i.e - no music, no wall-to-wall sports coverage, no bandits of anysort - just a quiet hush pervading the entire surrounds and muffled chatter from patrons a few tables down. we stayed for a couple of pints, suse with the kronenbergs and me with one of the guests - hydes, something or other that was found to be well kept, which is the very least you can expect - so all-in-all, a nice little boozer - not one i'll frequent to often, but if i'm passing with some time to kill then i probabley will.

Great ales; nice place; landlord could be happier, but if that's the price I have to pay to get a decent well-kept real ale in decent surroundings without wall-to-wall music or television (except for selected events), then I'm willing to pay it.

Great tasting fosters and a good laugh with the staff....cut short by the bar manager who must have been having a bad day or something as he informed his staff to stop serving me judging by the previous comments I doubt I'm the first to be refused. I don't think the southern accent helped my cause either!!! nonetheless a refreshingly traditional pub with a good atmosphere and pleasant clientelle.
