Now the slug and a rugby pub, best desribed as a South African version of walkabout. A video DJ was playing after 8pm on Friday which was rather odd. If you like that sort of thing I am sure it is good but if you are not keen on loud music in a dark pub then give a miss on a Friday night and did not dare try the draft beer.
|
Now called the Slug, and not exactly the best place in town, but if you don't like beer (They have no ales) and love big screen TV for Rugby, then it's fine.
|
Now this was one horrid place. A hang out for the local chavs from Croydon. Awful, awful, awful and glad it shut...
|
shut down

Fantastic food deals and great drinks offers. Visit this bar for friendly fast service. Gone are the fights and the dirty glasses, now with the new managers they never run out of beer or smiles. Unfortunately it's quite quiet these days due to past troubles, but a massive refurbishment is on its way - they tell us we won't recognise the place! Oh, and the pub is now being run by 2 gorgeous blondes - what more could you ask for....?!
|
I totally agree with the last comments. Little chav's running around at the moment are irritating but it's worth going in during the day - before they all finish school.
Some really nice staff too - sometime feel sorry for them having to put up with the little tossers. Managers need to get some balls and just bar anyone looking like a muppet - i'd use the place again if they didn't all drink in there.
|
If your a brainless chav content to stare at tour topend mobile phone, in ya ill fitting fake designer clobber, slurrpping sweet alcopops & causing mindless trouble then come here! Why do you never see a chav chatting up a bird or causing trouble on there own? Because unless there's 5 or 10 of them, they've got no bollox. pathetic little clones
|
If you are a Chav then this is the place for you, used to be a nice pub but the Hackett and Burberry brigade have decided to make it their watering hole.
|
Used to be a decent place to drink, but not anymore. Full of chavs and the even sadder wannabee chavs... Saw a horrendous flight pre-Xmas. No bouncers on; just two barmaids and a manager who kept out of harms way (quite sensibly given the number of bottles being hurled at the bar). Had to stop a young chav nicking the handbag of the girl caught up in the fight. Charming place - never again...

2 words...... SH*Y HOLE.
|
Don't see why people laugh at your oh-so-with-the-zeitgeist Burberry headwear? Relish the blinding reflection from your sparkling white trainers? Can you identify any kind of sickly sweet alcopop in a blind tasting? See Stella/Fosters as the connoisseur's ale of choice? Like nothing more than a good fight with a passer-by come chucking out time? Come to Yates' geeza u'll luv it! [sic]

never had any trouble with it, nice place to drink. :)

Just needs ropes and it'll be a boxing ring.

This place is awful - the people in this pub will look for fights by starting on complete strangers. Avoid at all costs if you are looking for a good night out and you want to leave all in one piece!

This place has a very bad reputation and deservedly so. Always fights inside that continue on to the street. Article in local Guardian newspaper a week ago basically saying that the police have had enough, either clean up your act or get shut down!!!!!!!

I have never had any problem with the staff at yates. The food is absolutely lovely. For best drinks value go between Sun & Thursday for some great deals. Would stay away on Fri & Sat nights as a few friends have got in trouble here! Nice atmosphere Sundays my most regular day of visit!

i think this pub is very good and a wothwhile night out. it has everything you want on a night out, lively and always busy. a great nite out!

Sadly what I read here is true cause I to fell victim to a bunch of young trouble makers (Lads & Lasses) wanting a fight and hurling racial abuse...and sadly they got it!!! Not ideal for the fun loving Saffa, Aussies and Kiwi's!
Sort it out!
Otherwise staff was friendly , helpful and polite!

This pub is rank! The carpet smells damp..the soft drinks are flat, the tap water gave me the shits!:) Only go here if you really like Burberry caps, shit trainers and YSL.. cos I seen far too much of it lining up outside! Too many fights. I'll never go in there again if I can help it.

Yeates's is a wicked bar and i rate it 10/10. it is a little expensive but apart from that brilliant. The bouncers are quite strict which is very annoying as my group never bring id out with them and have often been turned away, but apart from that yates's well done and keep it up!
Lisa - 25 Mar 2003 14:38 |
nice, even the bouncers are alright as the other guy said. although one time this idiot foreign barman went off to find a bouncer to chuck us out cos he forgot to collect the money off my mate and couldn't see him. despite the fact that he hadn't moved from the bar. div

It's brilliant! It's the best pub in wimbledon since Bar Med changed managment - there's a great atmosphere every night and everyone is really friendly.

It is the best pub for the 18-24 age group in Wimbledon. It has Music and is not expensive. The staff, management and door men are all really friendly. A great pub and it is also open until 12am every night
