Clearly a tourist pub, but not bad. I think it's the unofficial tap for the Dorset Piddle brewery whose beer is served sraight from the cask. Would go back if passing.

Correction to my previous post- cider was Cornish Rattler!

The best of 10 pubs we tried in Dorset yesterday. The food we had was very good. I had a venison bourgignon and my other half had the gammon. Both were good. In fact, it seemed very popular with diners, unlike the European Inn down the road. The pub also had plenty of locals paying an after-work visit, meaning it managed to cater both for drinkers and diners - a recipe that most rural pubs appear to have failed on by catering too heavily for diners. Three real ales were available - Piddle (Dorset Piddle), Abbot Ale (Greene King) and Tribute (St Austell). Cider is Thatchers Gold. Other beers from the local Dorset Piddle brewery are available to take out.

Ate here several times. One slightly stringy bit of Venison one evening, but other than that, really nice food and nice people too. Well worth visiting.

Stopped here for Sunday lunch which was very nice and well presented. Of course the Beer was excellent being Piddle Ale so i had to have a couple of pints. "She Who Must Be Obeyed" managed half a pint of the same. With food and drink like this, we will have to come and stay for a weekend as we could always take the dog

Beer was nice as was garden, Food was crap do not have the rabbit it was not cooked how stated on menu it was as tough as old boots not edible, the saute potatoes just deep fried new potatoes, small portion of vegtables not enough for 2 people. Topside beef in creamy pepper sauce was quite bland. Trouble is when your married to a real chef who is brilliant in the kitchen department it is very dissapointing when we eat out and the standard is not so good.

The last time I went in this pub was 8 years ago and it was a beautiful small country pub with bedpans all over the ceiling (a pun on Piddle I guess). But its now been extended and lost all its original charm in comparison. The food and service is good but why did it have to be modernised in such an ugly way. It seems to be happening all over Dorset.

Another Piddle Valley Gem. Smaller than the nearby Poachers but again wonderful company, great food and good drinks!
I've several years to go - but if I ever look to move to retire, it will be to the Piddle Valley!

Nice pleasant pub with very friendly helpful staff.
They went out of their way to help us out.
Good selection of beers, good food (take out if you want it), the chef is a looney (in a good way).
I'll go back if I end up the area again

Excellent beer, wine and food. Comfortable surroundings.
There is a free internet facility for locals and visitors to use run by Learning Action Dorset and Locals Online.
Nick and Miranda are charming and attentive licensees.
