please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

an astonishingly beautifull building, which is part hotel and part pub, but pleasingly the pub part is a good pub in its own right and not just a hotel bar. great service, great atmosphere in the evenings and a great setting. great pub.

they serve the local chilterns brewery 'beechwood bitter' which is a nice touch, and the 'home made' pork scratchings are the best in the area.

The pub part of this hotel is an oak-beamed bar with 3 real ales on tap - UBU Amber Ale, Chiltern Brewery Beechwood Bitter and Adnams Lighthouse. Food available in the bar and well worth a visit.

Used in a recent Agatha Christie's Poirot AND was in one of the wonderful old 1960's Miss Marple films.

This was clearly a nice pub with plenty of character at one time. But most of the character has now gone. Modern looking furniture and pictures really don't suit this olde worlde building. Two real ales were available - London Pride and Yellow Hammer Devon's Golden Ale.

This used to be my local in the '70's... it was thriving then and on occasional visits over the years since, always came up to expectations under John's expert touch. Gone now are the barrels racked up behind the bar. What a simple, practical but great touch that was..! I had a couple of decent pints here last nite (Pride & 3-a-pint Greene King IPA..!), but what's happened to the place..? Sanitized, standardized, blanded-up, or what..? Well, I say that, but there was a Goth couple runnin' the bar, so I suppose that mite be a plus..! Hardly anybody in the place at 9pm... I'm not surprized... nice fire on a cold nite though..!

This was not only the best pub in Amersham, but one of the absolute greats until Zola Hotels took over. What goes through the mind of somebody who seeing something old and genuine simply has to destroy it. There would be some excuse if the pub had been quiet or run down, but it used to be pretty much heaving.

Absolute bloody vandalism.

Oh dear - re-opened as part of the Zola Hotel Group.

Best to look at the local Amersham forum for reviews.

Terrible - and they know it.

Revised my old review for the pub (9) to (0).

What have they done?

Rumour has it that this great pub is closing down, to be turned into a hotel and conference centre.

Amersham won't have any pubs left at his rate !

A truly great, traditional pub with great beer. Special.

Delightful village-style pub in the heart of Old Amersham.

The exterior was used as 'The Jolly Boatman' in the film 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. The interior filming was done at the nearby 'Crown Hotel'.

Used to be an Old Coaching Inn - and everything inside is as it was (old timbers, beams etc).

No fruit machines/TV/Music - just good quality beers and a small menu (they have a restaurant next door).

Best point is that it's not cliquey - you can be a complete stranger and yet still be welcomed with a smile. It really is one of most relaxed pubs I've ever been to (and I've been to many).
