Interesting to read GerryL's Feb 2018 post - this was one of my favorite local pubs for many years while resident in Highgate. However for a good year and a half prior to leaving the area in 2017 it had went seriously but seriously downhill.

I gave up on this place when the cliquey rugby crowd just sat at stools on the bar making it damned difficult to get served - being at the bar the ignorant twats bar your access ensuring any of their clan gets served first regardless of what order they should be. Best to leave 'em to it - and when it closes hope they don't spawn off and ruin another establishment.

This place appears to have nose dived. It was until last year a gem of a village pub. It was taken over and then again recently. The latest pair of 'erberts running the place would seem perfectly placed if the pub was on the Isle of Sheppey.
Last night I witnessed two people trying to pay for their drinks with a card. The card machine didn’t accept the first person’s card until the third attempt. The second person’s card was not accepted and he said he would go across the road and withdraw cash, despite him saying that the card was just accepted in the pub next door and checking and showing his healthy online balance. The barman unbelievably and publicly told the group that he was ‘holding back the drinks’ and took them away.
The person told the barman how rude this appeared and the landlady came over. After being rudely rebuked by the landlady, the man told her she can keep the drinks and they will go elsewhere. She started shouting and threw the beer down the sink.
The landlord, an unpleasant looking little Irish man, then approached the man, didn’t announce who he was, and began threatening the man and swearing incessantly. He actually wanted to fight him for arguing with the landlady. The landlady then came from behind the bar and told the man that her son will ‘effing kill him’. Their language and behavior were outrageous and the few remaining customers left. The pair continued their foul mouthed ranting as the man let the pub to the parting view of the landlords middle finger.
This is Highgate. One of the most civilised places in London. How this pair got hold of the tenancy is a mystery. If you like rude staff, threatening and abusive owners then this is the place for you. If not there are lots of other good battle cruisers in the area.

After an afternoon of drinking in Camden & Highgate this pub was my last stop for a couple of pints. I didn’t know they did Thai food!

A short walk from the Gatehouse & you come across this 2014 Camra GBG entry & to be honest this is a proper boozer.

4 ales on the pumps, during my stay here I had several pints of Cottage Brewery DB5 @ 5.0%. Very drinkable and well kept.

2 barman on and they were providing fast and efficient service to the Saturday night crowd.

A steady stream of Thai food being served as myself and 2 companions hadn’t eaten it seemed like a good idea to order food. Food ordered and arrived promptly it was cracking, great tasting, good spices, good value & pretty filling….a great way to finish a visit to a really good pub.

Yet another pub I want to revisit soon !

A good small pub situated on the main road, looks to be more of a drinkers pub than others in the area, has a lot of cricket related photos on the walls and other items of local interest displayed too.

Had four real ale, I tried the redemption bewery "rock the kazbek" beer which was very good, the bar staff were very pleasant and service was good.

Small but perfectly formed traditional pub with a front entrance on the High Street and a rear entrance from a tree-lined square. A very nice place to relax. Beers were Butcombe Bitter, Thwaites Original, Celt Bronze & Wood Farm Victorious on my Thursday evening visit last week.

an odd but not unfriendly pub full of bookish locals and can seem very clicky to an outsider (ive lived inHighgate 20 years)but wouldnt consider it any better or worse than the flask just a lot less students in the summer!
Always a decent pint and i hear the thai food is good if a tad pricey.

Bounded into the Prince at 9.37 on 23/12/11 on a Christmas crawl with two friends. My half pint of Buttcome was gulped down in record-breaking time. Well done guys.

Interesting to see a raft of recent negative comments here have been the recipients of a Christmas cull.

On a quiet (4 other customers) saturday afternoon we ventured into this smashing looking pub, there was a small choice of good ales to chose from. We all enjoyed the beers, the smart, cosy interior but the wet weekend of a bar staff blimey o riley! In these darkish days of rescession and the pub up the road very full you need service with a smile not with a face like a slapped .... !

Bounded into the Prince of Wales on a birthday crawl with two friends on 1/10/11. I was DEEPLY TOUCHED by the young barman who remembered me from last year! And my half pint of Buttcome was shiver inducingly good!

By miles the best pub in Highgate - much better than the over-rated Flask nearby.
Lovely higgledy-piggledy wooden-panelled interior. Open fires in the winter, great spot overlooking Pond Sqaure with tables outside round the back in the winter.
Good beer, including the brilliant Marston's Pedigree.
