Pleasantly situated pub in a backstreet of Blandford Forum. On our Saturday lunchtime visit, it was busy with football fans watching the Liverpool v Manchester United cup game on the many TVs. Aside from a couple of big screens, there was even a small screen below one of the handpulls or T-bars on the bar itself. A good selection of ales was on - Sixpenny Original, Flack Manor Double Drop, Plain Ales Innocence & Ringwood Best. Stowford Press was the only cider of note. I found the glut of football supporters hogging the bar area a little off-putting and not conducive with my desire for a quiet drink. For me, there's only one place to watch a football match - at the ground itself! We supped up and moved on to the Dolphin.

Agree with other reviews re being a dive, and customers' bad language. tucked down a back street, I thought it was derelict when I first saw it.

I may have found my Holy Grail of pubs. My first visit is on a quiet Monday night. The beer is great and the staff charming. The clients are teenagers, families with young children, and old hardened drinkers like myself. The decor is unpretentious and comfortable. It appears to be that precious thing, a real community pub like in the soap operas. Above all it has a great sense of fun. I can't wait to visit on a busier night with a band on.

The Railway has the largest range of attractions that I have ever seen in a pub, the only thing they haven't tried is a Wii but maybe I missed it. Good beer, lively atmosphere, great quality sports thanks to Sky HD, band & open mic nights, quizzes, pool tables, it's all going on. Long may it continue!

The Railway is awesome! It seems to have the busiest day trade in town as well as having cornered the evening market too. There is no reason to get bored as there is loads to do - 2 game's machines, 2 fruit machines, a retro tech games table, a computerised poker table (where else can you play poker for 1 for half an hour!) 4 darts boards, 2 pool tables, shove hapney table, skittle alley, shuffle board, tictactactic, giant connect 4 plus a range of board games - there's loads! It's always a good place to have a laugh with your mates. Plus live music twice a week, a monthly event (i.e. guitar hero comp, slave auction, Mr. Railway comp, casino nights, etc, plus charity fund raisers and an annual beer festival. The beer festival is out of this world - awesome atmosphere, over 50 local real ales, ciders, perrys, local wine plus 3 live bands a day! Plus hot food being served well into the night. This pub is the best damn pub in the country! No other pub offers the same entertainment and atmosphere as The Railway.

Great to see local beers in good condition and go into a pub that shows no sign of becoming a restuarant

we was recomended to try this place as the landlord was a nice chap,we did not meet him which was a shame as we could have told him what dive it was, they should have a swear box they would fill it every night, also the landladys attitude was if you cant beat them join them.
|
I have read the other comments and cannot agree that it is a fantastic pub I'm afraid. Most of the good bar staff have now left and when we went in there last Saturday it was practically empty! And that was on band night! I don't think that the landlady getting drunk helps matters as she can be very offensive also which we have witnessed. I think maybe the Railway has had it's day which is unfortunately as it used to be such a nice place to drink.

the 3rd beer feast FANTASTIC, no wonder it's the 7th best pub in the country, THE COUNTRY, should be higher in the ratings, if you have never been to this pub, it's so worth it ..........Owen from " OWEN AND DARREN"

Difficult to find Free House in a back street of Blandford Forum. Victorian Pub dating from when there was a Railway line and station opposite. Fine selection of Real Ales and Lagers and all the Sports with multiple channels on multiple screens. Food at lunchtimes plus ther's darts, pool , Skittles, Shove Ha'penny and Shuffleboard. Superb atmosphere, great jukebox and entertainment. Recently re-furbished but could do with some new furniture.....well worth a visit!
