Catford Constitutional Club, Catfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
You approach this pub along an alleyway on one of Catford's main roads. This was my 4th and final Antic pub of the day in South East London. Food had stopped being served for the day. But Yorkshire Puddings were available on the bar, which I thought was a nice touch. The interior is spacious and typically cluttered. Similar to the Baring Hall Hotel I had been to before, this place does not look finished. A couple of well-oiled ladies on the table next to me were enjoying a boogie whilst also commenting on the disgusting nature of the pub and they had apparently spotted mould. So similar to the Baring Hall Hotel, this may not be everybody's cup of tea. But staff were friendly and families are made welcome. Ales were Volden Session Ale, Hackney Kapow, Crate Session IPA & Kent Cobnut. Again there was no real cider. There is a table football game near the entrance. The last poster describes this place as quirky. I quite agree and would happily return.

I can only add to my 2014 post, strongly recommending this rather quirky place, especially for the Tuesday night quiz. However it is in danger of closure this autumn, so please be sure to sign the petition to Lewisham to keep it open. London needs all the pubs like this that it can get.

A great old building, if Neil Jordan ran a pub it would look like this. Good beer as well and a mix of punters. Shabby but comfortable.

After a couple of pints in the London & Rye I made my first visit to the Antic owned Catford Constitutional Club.
I know Antic pubs very well and was prepared for what I would find on entering...very dim lighting and a shell of a pub that really looks like its in the throws of either being decorated or knocked down!!
Now I know that Catford is on it's knees when it comes to pubs these days but I'm unsure if this place really is the right type to drag the area into the modern times. Don't get me wrong I'm more than happy that a club that had laid derelict for over 17 years is now revived and more importantly is trendy & sells quality ales, I'm just not sure Catford was/is ready.
6 pumps with 4 ales on, I decide on a pint of Darkstar Partridge Best Bitter @ 4.0% and take a seat on one of the mish mash of sofas that Antic pubs are famous for.
I am one of around 15 punters in on my visit and am the only one not eating. Food certainly is popular today.
Top quality soul music playing, bizarre decoration that of course works, however the decoration or food can not take the musty smell out of the air.
I like this place but I'm not too certain I'll be coming here again next week.

A welcome substitiute to the Catford Bridge Tavern and run by the same people who used to run that. It's set out in "shabby chic" style that wouldn't be out of place in Shoreditch and attracts a mainly young crowd (apart from us 60-somethings). With 6 handpumps, including recently two Rudgates, it can't go wrong. The excellent quiz on Tuesday nights will help to lubricate any brain cells surviving the beer consumption (although it would be nice if they manage to turn off the music in the quiz room).
