A very good pub, with very good staff, with a very bad beer selection. If it's trendy they sell it, if it's popular they don't, which means you tend to run out of enthusiasm after 1 or 2 pints.

When you walk into a old fashioned London pub you expect to be greeted by an old fashioned Landlord. Someone who is cheerful and welcomes you into the pub. Unfortunately this is not the case when it comes to The Rising Sun. The Landlord was abusive and rude to us (a group of 12 people) and due to this we landed up leaving the pub and looking for an alternative venue. It saddens me to realise that a pub with a great selection of ales and beer in such a great location can be ruined by such a bad attitude.

Miserable bar staff and foul mouthed customers. A somewhat bland interior.
Never again.

Despite having worked nearby for about seven years, I hadn't visited this pub until very recently. The interior is fairly unremarkable, although the large windows give quite a pleasant, airy feel. For some reason I'd always thought it was a Shepherd Neame house, but actually I think it's probably a freehouse. Three ales when I visited: Spitfire, Pride and Young's Bitter. Thai food. Not sure I'd return in a hurry with somewhere as nice as the Cockpit round the corner, but this pub is OK.

Visited recently - not a bad pub - decent pint of Spitfire, good location.

Pretty basic for a City pub - nothing fancy but a reasonable atmosphere and a decent pint (of some real ale, but not memorable enough to recall exactly what).

Absolutely smashing. Wandered in on a Friday night for a sociable few drinks-ended up dancing on the tables. Cracking group of staff are all up for some fun. Had some top notch thai food as well. Everyone was super friendly. I've been back a few times since and always made to feel very welcome.

Good place for Thai food and watching the cricket, couple of LCD tv's and beers not bad.
|
Enjoyable Shepheard Neame beers on last night. The interior is pretty dull (looks like it may have been a few years back but has had it's guts ripped out) but at least the ale is good...

Best (only) pub in EC4. Can be too laddish if money brokers are in, but plenty of alternatives if that is the case.

Good place to go solo on a monday lunchtime.

Solid Irish-run boozer. Guinness in great shape. Staff are top notch. Great Thai food upstairs. Definitely a blokey boozer..... tis rare a fair lass darkens the door.

If you like busy old man pubs full of suits on a friday night then this is your place. Good atmosphere and pretty swift service, quite compact.
|
The pub downstairs is a great meeting place AND it has a jukebox! Range of bitters a bit poor though (just Adnams and Spitfire when I was there - the Youngs was off). Restaurant upstairs awful: rude service (they couldn't wait to close!) and uncooked pork in my main course. Shocking and one to avoid at all costs.
|
A good pub to watch sport in (unless it's really busy), as the big screen is well placed. Does a decent enough pint, and the Thai restaurant upstairs does a good trade, despite the local competition from the Thai Hut next door and the Centre Page that's not to far away.

Very enjoyable and nice Thai food.
