Now the Tufnell Park Tavern: Unrelentingly middle class, families abound and if you have kids this would be a great place to enjoy the sun. If the author of chavs needs to research a new book on the middle class "the self entitled" he should start here. Nice pint of Sussex best. Doombar also available.

Reinvented itself and reopened in May 2010 as the Tufnell Park Tavern, an upmarket gastropub and far cry from earlier incarnations.

This is now called Tufnells. Seen some flyers for a comedy club that is due to start in the upstairs part from 2nd Jan. Hopefully this pub is on the up.

This place is really, really odd. It's like being in a Student Union bar. Lots of pool table, nice bar staff, big tellies, but not...I don't know...it just doesn't feel like a pub.
There's a few oddballs in there, but then there are a few oddballs in that part of London. I can't put my finger on it really. I suppose it's just dark, dingy and mainly empty. Though I should stress that I haven't been in there on a weekend. Maybe it's totally different...

Progress Bar is kicking. Go there on a Friday or Saturday and you might bump into someone famous - literally!Tried the Latin American night on Thursday - very cool and great music. Watch out for the big name DJs awell. In my opinion Progress Bar is great because it supports all kinds of music unlike most other venues.A place to be seen.

OK for a quiet drink if you really need one in the Tufnell Park area. Let's face it (all due respect to the Boston) it doesn't have much competition. Large and empty and very dark inside. Why did they build pubs without windows in the seventies? Pool tables give it a slightly studenty feel. No women go there, ever. The lack of decent pubs in Tufnell Park makes me baffled that they can't seem to make a go of the Grand Banks.

This place has changed alot in the last couple of months, so you should check it out again. I go here regularly and they've got a new manager, new bar staff and a new chef. The food is now fantastic value. They've still got the pool tables, but I think the new owners have barred some of the more agressive types that used to come in here, so its pretty relaxed. The DJ's don't start up at the weekends until 10pm now, and build up gradually, so on the whole I give this an 8.5 / 10.

Silly come night-time. Don't know why, but there;s a air of undisturbed aggression in the place (too dark? too many pool-cues stacked about?) that always means yr on yr guard. Average bar-staff.

this is a real good pub. especially wen its open micnite

Chris is right. Its pretty good in here. Especially at the weekend.

Chris is right, to a degree. We like The Progress bar, though it tends to be a bit silly on weekends.
Have tried to go there for a quiet drink on Sunday evenings but have had to look elsewhere as a very loud DJ competition seemed to be going on. Not the place to go to if you want to relax and chat after a heavy weekend but ok during the week.
The Might of the Boston is something few 'ordinary folk' can appreciate/tap into. I am one of those lucky people who possess access to Boston appreciation. It is there if you look you look hard enough, you have to look past the aesthetic qualities...and then you'll see.

I think the progress is grossly under-appreciated. Its a great place for a few drinks on any day of the week. There is no such might in the boston that could possibly eclipse anything. Its not full of coked-up idiots (foolish joe, tut tut). Don't be such a fanny, come down again and enjoy.

Though it is eclipsed by the might of the Boston, the Progress Bar does possess excellent pool tables at decent rates.
Decent place during the day, not so great come evening time.

Nice place. good music and big pool. all good, however it is just that tiny bit too far away to frequent that often. late license is a beauty though, means you dont have to peg it into camden for late drinks..

Excellent contemporary London pub, plenty of space and seats, and enough dark corners to facilitate good conversation. Oh and an enormous cityscape painted on one wall. Beer wasn't bad either...

This is a great find. 4 american pool tables, set in a trendy looking pub with requisite distressed leather sofas, foreign bottled beers and hoogarden on tap. There is also a nice beer garden, a good-looking food offering, and an upstairs venue. Oh, and it's open till 2 on a friday and saturday.
