As below but the ale quality has taken a bit of a dip

Found it very similar to last visit - plenty of good ales on but can be a bit dog eat dog getting served (he or should I say they who barks loudest etc). Your best bet in the station vicinity though.

My how station pubs have changed - this is a super place to sit back and wait for a train and the selection of ales, many of them Yorkshire ones is impeccable. That railway side location is perhaps one disadvantage in that it makes for a transient crowd but it's a nonetheless a destination in its own right. Kama Citra from the Durham Brewery went down well.

A 2 pint visit after football at Bootham Crescent during midweek.
As per previous visits a very decent selection of ales on with 19 on cask with another 12 ales, lagers and ciders on keg. I had a pint each of the Glastonbury Thriller @ 5.0% and Tapped Mojo @ 3.6% both went down a treat.
Fairly quiet at 10.15pm but it’s a large place. Great selection of ales and yes it is a bit on the pricey side but it does keep the riff raff out.

reassuringly expensive, keeps out the riff raff don't you know. Excellent choice of ales, a definite must visit pub if in York.

On a long weekend in York, this was my first, last and favourite pub in the city. It's a great place if using the station as we where. The interior is divided into two halves by the bar and it was fairly busy on both weekday afternoon visits. It still has an excellent ale range. On Friday it was Vocation Divide and Conquer, Titanic Mild, Stout & Plum Porter, Brass Castle Bad Kitty, Anarchy Crime Scene & Warhead, Hardknott Continuum, Brighton Bier Freshman, Mino Bier & Bier, Hopcraft Juicy Fruits & Mate Spawn and Die, Camerons Ahopaclypse Now, Glastonbury Lady of the Lake, Ilkley Mary Jane and their own Tapped Brew Co. Stout. Ciders were Westons Single Orchard & Celtic Marches Cracklin' Rosie. By the time I returned 3 days later, new ales were Bad Seed Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, Glastonbury Mystery Tor, Allendale 11 Malt Porter, Simcoe, Golden Plover & Yakima Pale, Hop Studio Pale, Mordue Radgie Gadgie, Pig & Porter Skylarking & Ashburnham, Birghton Bier West Bier, Hopcraft Atlantico Sur, Arbor The Devil Made Me Brew It & Tapped Brew Co. Ale & Rodeo. Sandford Orchards Shaky Bridge was a new cider. Great place for a drink. My only concern would be some of the pricing. £6 for a pint of the Imperial Stout seemed a bit steep. Although I believe it was 8.3%.

A flying visit on a Wednesday night and it was very busy. As per my previous visit’s there’s a great range of ales on but I was surprised that they seemed to have upped the price of their “craft” ales.
I went for a half of Celt Experience’s Brigid Fire @ 6.3% and Siren Craft Brew’s Baby Wheel @ 7.1% and was charged over £6.00 for both halves! I asked the barman if this was correct and was informed that both beers were over £6.00 a pint so my answer was yes it was correct!
I’m still impressed by the glass dome in the centre of the ceiling, both my ales were excellent and regardless of the price I still like this Tap.
Worth a visit.

Excellent station pub with a huge choice of cask ales plus the excellent Bernard beers from the Czech Republic on tap. Efficient and friendly service on a busy Saturday afternoon. And this is one of the dwindling number of railway bars where you can still sit on the platform (segregated area) and watch the trains and the world go by. 10/10!
|
It started out well, wobbled a bit.... and now it's got even better. Tremendous range of beers always available but occasionally lets itself down by not offering anything below 4.2%... which preclude an easy session. Also prone to running out - on a visit a few months ago I ended up having to have four different pints as each (small) barrel ran out.
That said, it's a super circular bar (stand by the hand-pulls or you won't get served) in a large and attractively renovated ex-dining room adjacent to the platforms It has a seating area on the platform - yet despite its location, no train departure screen. Strange, because it would be the ideal place to discover your train is running15 minutes late so there's time for another.
Avoid the gents - it's a disgrace - and use the big station lav just along the platform. But it's the beers you should be coming here for, and the range is pretty well without equal. Tapped's own Mojo is always reliable and watch out for gems from across England (not least Stancill Blonde).
The other of York's two best pubs.

Great pub with a great selection of quality real ales

20 real ales! yippee! Awesome pub, terrific beers. Need more staff on though as the service was slow. That aside a dam fime hostelry!
|
Always something different to try and the beers are well kept. One not to miss when visiting York.
|
What a great place! Twenty handpulls serving eighteen real ales & a couple of ciders, as well as a dozen craft/keg beers, but unlike the Euston Tap plenty of comfy seating and loos that aren't accessed by spiral staircase - what's not to like?! It's slightly hidden behind (east of) the other station pub (Coopers?), as if you go into the main station entrance from the Micklegate direction you can't see it. A rare 10 from me!

First visit to the York Tap yesterday, on arrival by train. Located in an old tearoom near the main exit, the pub is a nice little place in a busy station. The races were on yesterday. So it was interesting to watch the hordes of racegoers arriving by train. The Tap has a great selection of ales - Orkney Best & Island Hopping, Sonnet 43 Steam Beer, Bourbon Milk Stout, India Pale Ale, Junction Pale Ale, Brown Ale, Blonde Beer & Childhood Faith Strawberries & Cream, Castle Rock Harvest Pale, Arbor M Bomb, Blue Sky Drinking, Tapped Brewing Co Rodeo, Ale & Bullet, Atom Pale Ale & Phoenix White Monk. Ciders were Thistly Cross Jaggy Thistle & Westons Rosies Pig. There aren't too many pubs open before 11am. This was one. So it was a handy first stop on our tour of York pubs.
|
Now I am not comparing this place to other pubs, but to other taps! A great station bar with a vast cask range. Not cosy - can feel a bit hectic and noisy at times. The bottle selection is not extensive (again, compared to other taps not other pubs). Staff friendly and punters generally good natured - a good bar but not a great one. But still my first port of call on arrival at York!
|
Wow what a beer selection the York Tap has.
Opens at 10.00am on a Saturday and was pretty busy when I arrived off the train at 11.30am.
20 pumps dispensing 18 different ales & 2 ciders, a lot of the offerings being from local breweries.
Quick attentive service with the staff being knowledgeable about the beer they are serving.
Plenty of interesting bottles and cans in the fridges, many from America.
This is the former tea rooms, the stain glass windows and ceiling domes are stunning.
Perfect for the station as it can be entered from platform side.
|
Paid the Tap a quick visit for a work meeting in York last week.
My one pint wasn't great - it tasted like it'd be watered down - but I probably just got unlucky because the people running this place, along with the Leeds and Euston sites which I've also been to, know what they're doing.
I'll be back to reacquaint myself in the not too distant future.

With a beer menu to put most places to shame, this is a great place for a few beers. Today we had everything from bitter to pale ale to strong IPA to black IPA to stout and all in very good condition. Set in a beautiful old tearoom on the station platform we really liked the feel of the place and spent a bit ore time than intended here. The only detractor was the pricing, which I couldn't get my head around as there appeared to be no logic to it with beers of the same ABV and/or distance from the pub being wildly different in price.

can't believe not reviewed yet. Exhibition pub in style of Sheffield tap with fewer keg beers. Good range of cask if not the best quality (Euston better).
