As the previous reviewer states, this is now a Slug & Lettuce. The only real ale was off, leaving a selection of fizzy lagers and the like. The view over the river from the outdoor tables is quite pleasant. But the pub itself is fairly dull and featureless inside. It's been quite a few years since I was last here (when it was the Ha Ha Bar), and it was no different then. Sadly, the Wetherspoons is about the best of a bad bunch in Staines.

Complete rubbish. A waste of time. They could have done so much more with this place. Its a slug and lettuce now but you wouldn't know it. Look across the river see the Swan Hotel and go there, swim if you have to. Don't swim, that's just silly. Ridiculously expensive, the bar staff are always somewhere else and the food is naff.

This pub became a Slug and Lettuce about a year ago. Still the most ridiculously expensive pub in Staines. On the up-side they actually have people behind the bar now. Progress. But, it is on the sunny side of the river. Needs must and all that...

I went in other day for the first time in months and I immediately remembered why I avoid it. The bar staff should be in the Red Arrows as they disappear in every direction apart from towards you. After waiting for some time we just walked out. A lovely location but what's the point if you can't get served. I will not bother again.

Just average really...

Want a nice view of the Thames on a sunny day? The Swan is over the bridge, and it's nicer.
There isn't really much here, quite cold and clinical, and it's frighteningly expensive. There's no handpulls (although they do offer Whitstable Bay Organic Ale for 2.95)
Popular with Estate Agents and wannabe This Life trendies.

I went in once, and was charged 12.50 for a big bottle of Leffe beer - the same stuff is 3 in Sainsbury's round the corner. And the food was poor. At the time, they didn't let on who owned the place and I was unable to write to complain.
|
Last time I went here the first round was a rip off and then had to wait so long to get another drink we left after 20mins of waiting at the bar, will not be going back in the near future. There are other pubs in Staines that are better, and appreciate a customer prepared to spend some money. plus the food in here is also a rip off, ok it might look & sound good but 8 for a burger which doesnt come with chips is a con.

Not the best in the world but also not the worst. Nice chilled atmosphere and especially nice on those long warm winter evenings! Also do a nice pint of San Miguel.
|
Agree with the previous poster, was once asked to sign a petition to get more staff. Staff they do have are always polite (maybe thats because I am as well) and no problems waiting ages to be served. Bit pricey for Staines though but being from Yorkshire I am as tight as a knat's chuff. Toilets clean so a good place to 'grow a tail.'
|
I am a regular at ha ha bar, and the problem isn't with the staff - it is higher up. if you speak to any of the staff htere, you will see how under staffed, under payed and over worked they are. recently they had a birthday party to celebrate 2 years of being open and it was a huge hit. they had plenty of staff and it was a fantastic night out.
they need to have a bigger staff allowance from headoffice so as they can get back up to the old ha ha standard we all knew and loved.

I don't dislike this place but i do prefer drinking elsewhere, it doesn't seem to have any atmosphere in there, the appeal about it is it's right by the river but that's it

this place doesnt deserve to hav prices so high.. all it must mke is profit seeing as they dont actually high stff to serve and charge sky high for drinks!! the only good thing about this place is the fact that its on the river and that sucks because durin summer everyone has the same idea about sitting on the river and drinking... well u can sit by the river but its on the floor and your gonna be the lucky one if u ever get a drink!
|
This was a great place in the summer time, but now has gone really down hill. The service is awful considering you have to wait about half an hour to get a drink, there never seems to be any staff anywhere and when there is they look less than willing to help you. Its a shame as i used to like coming here.

I think the barstaff were remarkably restrained given that you'd just converted their "art" into a giant penis mate.
|
Good location but over priced for any drink that is worth consuming. The barstaff also get naggy when you alter the new velcro decor. What is the point....

god MrG thats awful.
this place is nice for one (expensive) drink, then on somewhere else to eat or drink. nice loaction in the summer.

When I was in before Christmas I was asked to sign a petition by one of the staff members so the parent company would let them employ more staff. Possibly the lack of staff is leading to some of the negative comments about service below?
|
haha (nice bar) staines (rubbish location) says it all. it seems you cant have both!

What the hell has happened to the HaHa brand, service is poor, Food has gone down hill, and well over priced. The staff at staines are a far cried from any other HaHa i have ever gone to. This place needs massive improvements to keep up with the rest of the style bars in the area.

Lovely place to get nicely drunk by the river. Good selction of Belgian beers offers something different to Staines' usual two bottles of Hooch for a pound pubs. Nice food, gorgeous barmaids, no idiots and charvers can't afford the beer. Perfect!
|
very pleasant atmosphere, superbly good looking female staff, nice food menu, but can be quite expensive if you spend the whole night there. No charvers due to pricing policy.

Great location but I wonder if the people who live upstairs agree. Bit of a 'corporate' feel as the interior was done by Harrison Design who also did Baroosh. Charver free, which is its plus point.

I LOVE this place! Fantastic atmosphere, room to move, amazingly friendly staff. I would say by far the best place to drink in Staines.

Nice Bar... Keeps up the standards of other Bar Ha Ha's. Adam is right, the more expensive drinks keeps the 'Wide Boys' out, which has to be a good thing!
Barman did try and short change me though, it might have been a mistake, but you can't trust anyone these day! He paid up though........

Yes its fairly pricy, but that what you have to pay these days to keep the townies out! its a lovely bar and a sunny day by the thames on the balcony is really great.
adam o'connor - 24 Apr 2004 10:02 |
I like this bar alot. Even though the drinks are a litte bit more expensive than other places, the atmosphere is comfortable with no need to keep looking over your shoulder.
Plus the barmaids are lovely....easy tiger

Rubbish. Looks nice but is stupidly expensive (it's in STAINES for god's sake), lack of seating and just nothing particularly worth going for (apart from a nice, but small, balcony looking out onto the river which is good in summer). Doesn't make for more than one drink on a pub crawl I think.
Ronnie Rosenthal - 9 Jan 2004 01:38 |
its the only decent bar in staines that isnt full of townies and typical staines malarky. Nice place to go for a drink with ur friends or a dinner after work.

If you like London style Bars you'll love this place. Very spacious, bright alert staff and surpringsingly good food. Great place for lunchtimes or after work

The bar is very nice and modern place, and although the food is nice and they have a good selection of drinks.....
IT's TOO EXPENSIVE and the atmosphere is not that great. I would say a great pub for a lunchtime drink, but not an evening pub.....
