Used to go here all the time, bit expensive and very crampt most nights, but I like it and always a good crowd. Heard a few scare stories about some of the old bouncers who used to work there- not sure if they still do- but overall for me it was a good one to turn up at

I have had some of the best times of my life in ride. The staff are great most of them are very fit too - lads and ladies. I have now moved to Bristol and ride is definately in the same league as the prestige funky cocktail bars up here. The drinks are great the music is even better every night there is something different happening. I miss the eclectic mix of chilled out and outrageous students, and of course the surfers its Plymouth!! The ride arena at the famous mansion party was the best night ever. The owner is one of the most friendliest and generous guys around.

Cool bar, friendly people (mostly) which is saying something for Plymouth!!! Good music, tasty booze, and friendly staff. Get involved all you mincers who would rather drink at Cuba or the Scholar

I go to0 this bar a lot, why? because it is the only bar in Plymouth really worth going to. Good music nearly all the time, a relaxed door policy, shorts and flip lops welcome and cheap beer on mondays 1 a pint and from 5 - 9 when it is 1.20 a bottle and 1.50 a pint.Which is pretty reasonable unless you are an ale fan in which case you probably wont fit in because you'll be so worried about spilling your beer you couldn't possibly party, could you? Also heard from a little birdy that Ugly Duckling are due to play in November. Oh and one last thing, the bar staff and door staff are the frendliest about... period. And whats wrong with an owner who declares free bar at least once a month.

Trenday student based bar, with good live music and DJ Sets. Expensive drinks, especially in comparison to the local prices. But has metropolitan feel to it.

Bar R, also known as ride is a relitavely popular venue for many students. Located nextdoor to cuba and opposite the skiving scholar, it is easily accessible from the university. It has 3 floors, (two of which have bars), and a beer "garden". This particular bar has a rather 'half finished' or to put more truthfully, 'bodged' feel to it. At present the bar is half finished and looks rather raw, some of the tables upstairs could do with re-attatching to the walls, and i wouldnt entrust them to my pint, even when intoxicated! The 'Dance' room is also rather bodged with cables hanging loosely on the wall and a sofa that only a 4 year old could sit on comfortably. That said at least they havent skimped on the sound system. Whilst sat on the so called seating upstairs those of you with dentures may get them rattled out by the large amounts of bass eminating from the under seat speakers. The lighting system is also relitavely good for such a small venue, although dont expect anything to Bar38s standards. On monday, expect a lot of drunken attempts at breakdancing with lots of spilt beer. 1 a pint night on monday is (unsurprisingly) the most popular with local students, offering pints of Boddingtons and Castlemaine XXXX for only 1, although if repeating this weekly dont expect to be surprised by the tunes that get played, the only variety from week to week is the order in which they are played. A word of advice to any potential APint customers - You can only get it downstairs! Other popular nights include Spin Cycle, and an Acoustic night.

Ride is one of the disappointingly rare places of Quality Music in Plymouth on a Saturday night, or any other night for that matter. You may feel about the price of the drinks but chances are you can bounce to the funky music til 2am and you probably won't have paid anything to get in.

That's 'sycophants' Rik, and if you think it's bad in there I presume you've never ventured further east than Bristol. What do you mean exactly? Pycophantic towards whom? Pretending to be what? And what do you mean by 'clicky'? Just becuase they play decent music and it's not full of townies doesn't make it up it's own arse.

All i can say is that you can't fail to love this place (unless of course you don't like being around people who are really enjoying themselves-Rik)

Full of the most pretentious sicophants your ever likely to meet, full of surfer dudes that probably surf twice a year. very clicky, bad beer, idiot doormen, narcissistic barstaff..why bother when the seymour arms is round the corner.
