A disaster of a place because of the scum who live nearby. They will not take offence at this as they can't read...bless 'em. A great shame that a lovely location pub has been ruined by the people it could have served.

The Cambridge News announced 21 May 09 that this is up for sale and is unlikely to be continued as a pub (along with four other Cambridge pubs). Most likely to be turned into "luxury housing". I can't say I'm sorry to see it go, but the demise of every pub is a lessening.

This pub (The Penny Ferry) has got Christmas decorations stuck on the outside wall all year round. No one has bothered to take them down. The place looks run down. There are hanging baskets of dead weeds outside. They have set up an indian restaurant inside and it often smells of curry but I don't know anyone who has been there. The last time we went in there it was mostly empty but there were people shouting at each other and a very bad atmosphere so we left and haven't been back.

Now it's apparently named "The Penny Ferry". I didn't stop in, as I remember it as the (dreadful) Pike & Eel.

Used to be known as the pikey and eel on account of the travelers camp just down the road. Was o.k. at lunch time, but in the evening when all of the scum came out of the woodwork it was a place to avoid.

A bit chavvy round the edges, but friendly enough. Nice place for the summer but it's not really a winter pub. Not when the much better Green Dragon is just down the river
