user reviews of the Kings Arms, Stowmarket

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Kings Arms was our second favourite pub in Stowmarket after the Royal William. It's situated next to the station. But, with no trains running this weekend, the replacement buses weren't exactly flooding the pub with visitors. Inside, there is one large room with the bar and a couple of smaller rooms. Outside, there is a drinking area overlooking the car park and there is also a burger joint in a cabin. Menus for the burgers are on the tables. Ales were Woodforde's Wherry, Adnams Ghost Ship & St Peter's Off Ya Rocker & Cream Stout. Other than the Royal William, this was the only other pub on our Suffolk trip, where we found real cider. Old Rosie was available. Instead, I went for the Cream Stout, which was very nice indeed. We completed our Stowmarket on the other side of the tracks in the Little Wellington (not listed on here).

First pub of the day at 11am in Stowmarket.

The Kings is very handily placed for the station being almost on the car park as you leave the station. Its a corner shaped building with the small corner bar to your left as you enter.

4 ales on the hand pumps and 2 boxes of real cider behind the bar. 3 of the ales had abvs between 3.2% and 3.7% but I choose to start the day on Hellhound Breweries Soul Survivor @ 5.7%, a drinkable beer served by the strange barman!

A couple were sat in the bar area with 2 other punters in the small back room that had the Snooker on the television.

I have visited the Kings before , that was around 4 years for a quick drink while waiting for a connecting train.

Several piece's of breweriana are dotted around the bar area.

Time for one pint before moving onto another GBG pub a short walk away.

The Kings gets 7/10 from me.

Popped in here on Monday evening, while taking the dog for a walk ! I'm very pleased that I did too . . . A proper pub, friendly and welcoming, well kept beer and dog friendly too ! Good outside area (under cover) for sitting and chatting - must now check out the Royal William in Union Street as I've heard good things said about that one too . . .

Very friendly pub that is handy for the railway station. I often pop in here if I have a spare few minutes to wait for the train to Bury St Edmunds. They have at least 4 cask ales on and 4 ciders as well. The staff are always pleasant and amiable.

This pub, and the fantastic Royal William around the corner in Union street make getting off the train in Stowmarket well worth doing, the only problem might be missing your train home......such a refreshing change to find a decent pub opening for a change.

A pub that has opened and bucks the recent trend of familiar pub closures, must be doing something right?

Great varietal beer choices always two offerings from Woodfords at the weekend and three others cask options with a concentration on locally sourced and equally important sensibly priced brews. The resulting pints are consistently well kept and you benefit from this dedication to quality driven by a landlady who really knows her ale.

Next time you hop off the train at Stow, the pub is just opposite, or have an hour to chat in a beer garden during the warmer summer evenings this is your place!
