Nice place selling the wonderful Marble beers plus many more. Very different to their other pub - the Marble Arch. Perhaps more of a "daytime" vibe. Perhaps a place to come immediately after work.

Paid a visit recently following their refurb earlier in the year. Real ales are now served in the upstairs bar. Barrels are in a small room behind the bar and are dispensed here to order.

The newer and smaller relative of the flagship Marble Arch on Rochdale Rd, this Thomas St branch of the Marble Brewery chain takes advantage of the growing Bohemian atmosphere of the Northern Quarter.
One long table (with two smaller ones in the window) create a more convivial atmosphere, at busier times encouraging friendly chat. Casks are bar mounted and gravity dispensed, the range of four favouring the excellent lower strength session beers like 'Pint' and 'Best'. This limited range thankfully excludes the novelty 'beer the same strength of wine' offerings which have become a pest at the Marble Arch, though there's plenty of this stuff for sale bottled if you miss it.
There's also fridge full of bottled belgian beers. There's a pleasingly wide range of snacks and sandwiches, much of it Mediterranean inspired, for those who are peckish, without the Marble Arch's gastropub menu which can leave session beer drinkers feeling out of place.
Having just one unisex toilet is about the only aspect which disappoints, but like the bar-mounted casks that another reviewer complained of, this is unavoidable for such a small venue. A great place to chat with others on a Friday night or to take the papers on a Sunday.

Steep? Pricey? Must be a different pub. The nice pints of Pint and Bitter were around the 3 quid mark - is that expensive these days? Especially for Marble beer. Served directly from the barrel which is not to everyone's taste but makes a nice change for me. Food is the sort that doesn't need a knife and fork (cheese and ham and pork pie etc) - I have a slight problem with the marble arch and its diners detracting from the drinking atmosphere! Smashing place to watch the world go by during the day. Imagine it gets a bit hectic at night.

Visited here again last night. Not as expensive as I remember it, so perhaps my comment in my earlier review was a little unjustified. Don't think there was as much selection as on my previous visit but had a pint of the Manchester at £2.90 - also good to see that despite the hot weather the cooling of the barrels was doing its job and the beer was served at perfect temperature.

The seating reminded me a bit of a school canteen with a long row of tables in front of the bar with seats on both sides. A fair selection of real ales served directly from the kegs. A bit on the pricey side but a nice clean pint. Worth a visit, I'd say.

Reasonable selection but a tad up itself I though. much preferred the Marble Arch

Where do I start?
I came here with all good intentions with the thought of Marble ales.
Gee-whiz! Theyve certainly got it drastically wrong with this venture.
Beer served straight from the barrel that you would expect from a beer festival, hence the flat and unjust appearance and taste.
The whole place just doesn't do it for me. It seem very pretentious and a gimmick that I fail to fall for.
Stick to what your beer is brewed for... Hand pulled quality ales and less of the overly priced bullshit.
Rant Over

Decent selection of beer ranging from the obscure to horribly predictable. The ale's well looked after, but the prices are so absurdly steep, I MUST advise you to avoid it... unless you've won in the bookies or something.

Visited this place last night on the back end of a pub crawl.... The range of ales was superb... the atmosphere was great with a very chatty crowd on both floors. Only downside is its too popular... and you struggle to get a seat, but hey, thats the price you pay for being a decent place. Oh I forgot, the annoying thing is that the gents are upstairs.... its a pain in the arse sometimes.... Overall, I would defo recommend this bar for a visit, the beer was great and it was lively and friendly...

Fab cheese platter accompanied by friendly knowledgeable staff and marvellous Marbles to glug. What's not to like? We visited in mid-Nov at around 6.30 on a Saturday - it was relatively quiet for an hour or so ( a few seats available). Little beer bars like this are the way forward (as well as proper trad pubs).

Nice bar and nice range of ales - can be tough to get a seat though - probably best to go in day time. Marble beers are awesome esp. for me the Lagonda IPA

Another modern type cafe bar in the trendy Northern Quarter of Manchester. From the outside, you wouldn't recognise this as a bar. However, inside there are 4 casks on the bar holding Marble Beers. Unfortunately, only the Pint was on during our visit. There is also a fine range of bottled beers, including the entire Marble Range, many continental beers and ciders from Gwatkin. The interior is small and is dominated by one long table, whilst there is a smaller table with modern seating in the window. Note the bar does not open until 11:30, meaning the 2012 Good Beer Guide is already out of date!

It's a small cafe bar that serves an unfeasibly large selection of beers. Marble beers are always a winner and this is no exception. Combined with an excellent cured meat and cheese choice, this is a great early evening venue- either for pre-gig fodder for the Northern Quarter types or pre-train fodder for the return-to-London types. Friendly service too. I will definitely be back soon.

Yes, it's another cafe bar in the Quarter, but it's very friendly and I rate the Marble 3.9% from the barrel as my beer of the year - gorgeous.
|
It has the excellent Marble Beers on draught and in bottles. It has a much younger clientle than can be found in the Marble Arch. However, there is not much space in here and it is always very busy, so I was forced to stand right by the door feeling cold.
|
Don't like the name and the Ginger Marble was more overpoweringly ginger than I've ever had it. In saying that the pub itself seemed friendly and well decorated, I wouldn't want to be in there while it's busy though.

Excellent, well kept beer. Simple food available too.

Small bar in Manchester's trendy Northern Quarter, as noted owned by the Marble Brewery, easily Manchester's best micro if you ask me. It has one room with a big long table and not much other seating, and as it gets rather busy you may well find yourself standing. Unlike the well-known Marble Arch, it's thoroughly contemporary like most of the surrounding bars, and is clearly aiming for a younger clientele. However, the wallpaper is derived from the architecture of the Marble Arch thus providing something of interest. The real ales are all Marble, and whilst the selection is not as great as that of the Arch it's pretty decent. They are served directly from the barrel, like at a beer festival. All in all this place can't really match up to the excellent Arch, but is more central and is a worthy addition to the hit-and-miss bars of the Northern Quarter- definitely one to visit alongside Odd and Bar Fringe for example, for the quality of their beers. Definitely worth a try.

The Marble Brewery's new venture in the Northern Quarter. Has great well-kept ale like all their pubs and is in a good location close to other bars. However, it is extremely small and has been very cramped each time I've visited.
