Perks is named after its owner, who also owns the Volunteer nearby. As the previous reviewer states, it feels like a micropub. But it most likely pre-dates the micropub trend. Bass is the regular ale. The guest beer was Yates' Holy Joe. I was also delighted to see a real cider in a polycask on the bar. It is made for the pub and the Volunteer and was called Woodgate Amber Gold. Locals were congregated around the bar. Dogs are allowed in, but children are not. The barmaid was friendly and eager to tell me about the cider and she also gave me information on Ventnor's historic pubs. Luckily, she also informed me about the Volunteer not opening until 4pm. So I had a leisurely drink before continuing. I actually preferred Perks to the Volunteer.

Not sure how to describe this place - micropub or 80s wine bar spring to mind. Bass and Longman American Pale Ale were on sale at £3.30 each - I tried the latter which was the best pint I had on the island.

Excellent vibrant local. We visited on a Sunday afternoon. Bass and Longman American Pale Ale on, I had the latter which was in good condition. Also available was a trad cider. Check website for meal times.

The Bass is wonderful, served flat as it should be with no head. Great food but the last time I called in all the tables were reserved. Friendly place - staff and locals. I don't need any other beers but some might.

Nice Friendly pub

Small cafe style pub which has a interesting mix of customers.
Several real ale on tap and selection of lager and cider available, all very well kept.
Think it is run by a ex military man from the memorabilia on the walls.
Nice to see a barman wearing a shirt and tie, very "old school"

Looks like a cafe or shop at first glance - we walked past and only went back after being tipped off by a local. The pub is cafe style with lots of photos of old entertainers on the walls. The staff were really pleasant, the food was tasty and inexpensive and the beer was good. They also had a barrel of cider on the bar. Interesting place.

cafe bar style with Bass of all things on handpump which was very well kept. TV and Film Stars' pictures on the wall and a number of Max Bygraves photos in evidence. Relaxed with an interesting mix of people.
