Well located Greene King pub. It was busy on our sunny Saturday afternoon visit. The garden opposite is on the banks of the River Cam and you can watch boats and wildlife (swans, ducks and cows!) pass by. Watch out for the plethora of cyclists as you cross the road. The pub itself is fairly small. But there is another outdoor seating area to the rear. Service was with a smile, which is always a bonus. Ales were Greene King IPA & Abbot, Morland Old Golden Hen, Roosters YPA & Chesterton Best Bitter. Nice pub in a village-like setting.

Greene King boozer, although as well as the stuff made in Bury St Edmunds, there were also several guest ales on. Pints of Golden Sheep and Landlord (£3.30 each, from memory) went down well in the beer garden over the road, which overlooks the river. Can't comment about the food, but would happily return for more beer.

i like where it is. i'd call in if i was in the area. ale was OK when i was there. wifi worked reasonably.
i didn't eat as the food didn't look anything special. sounds like i made a good choice ...

Car outside the Green Dragon was set alight by arsonists last night thankfully nobody was injured in the incident and the fire brigade managed to put the fire out.

Visited the Green Dragon on Saturday May 14th - The food was awful. I sent the Mixed Grill back as it was cold and the 'chicken' like cardboard. Came back hot but the whole meal was useless. Sausage cheap value, chicked dry and hard, eggs hard, gammon dry, steak chewy, chips drab. 2 onion rings OK. Tables sticky. My big regret is that I paid for it. Staff appologetic and sympathetic. I will not eat there again. Beer OK

As mentioned below, now under totally new management. I agree: it looks like a change for the worst (no home made food, louder music, less attentive staff, worse-kept ales, less punters). But on balance, it's still a decent place to pop in if in the area, although no longer a destination in its own right. It's still a charming building, so with better management this place could be right up there.

This pub has changed management recently but unfortunately this pub has not changed for the better. Went for 'Sunday Roast' only to be served a frozen microwaved dinner, couldn't find anything on the plate roasted - awful and a shame. The Green King fast food chain menu is the first clue that your going get something lacklustre.
Sticky tables and the ale has dropped in standards. Recently refurbished but still a charming pub. Will travel further afield for a few nice pints and food.

Really good pub, good place to go for lunch as the food is excellent and sensibly priced. It's GK but they always have at least one guest ale. Like this place.

Great food and friendly staff. I wish all pubs could have stayed like this its how it should be.

This pub is how all pubs should be- really friendly and local- it also really looks the part. Quite often you go in there and it's so full it's difficult to find a seat, but you don't mind because the atmosphere is so nice. I took my mother there and we both had the soup- it was absolutely fresh and delicious- it couldn't have been better. There is a slot machine in there but it doesn't affect the atmosphere. There is a lovely fire and round the corner a huge pile of books. I don't drink beer, but the cider is fine.

Good food, decent beer - bucking the Green King pub norm. 5 hand pumps, mostly 'King, though occaisionally some Green-King-crushed gems such as Witchfinder Porter show their comely faces. Certainly hard to beat the price of a pint here. My XX Mild seems to be on the turn tonight unfortunately, not perfect.

Good beer - the Greene King staples plus one or two unusual guest ales. All nicely kept. Good food - cheap and home made. Nothing fancy but top pub grub. Interesting building - historic, bit shabby but great garden adjacent to the river. Interesting punters - mixture of science park, wannabe academics, locals, crusties from the boats, and the occasional gypo gathering. Gets busy especially on weekday evenings and Sunday lunch.
I'd say it's one of the more genuine pubs in Cambridge and worth a trip out from the town centre.

Good food and full of character - shame it's a Greene King pub, but they do serve it well.
|
Very nice pub - they're a Greene King house but they had three guest ales on offer, which makes a nice change in Cambridge. The beer garden is over the road, but is on the riverside and must be a lovely spot in summer. Some very old beams inside helping to hold the ceiling up add to the atmosphere.
Clearly a popular place as I visited at 12:20 on a Saturday lunchtime and there were only a couple of tables left.

Although now in the Beer Guide beer qualiy not as good as previously, but still an essential stop (handy for Cam Utd over the bridge as well)

Excellent and attractive riverside pub. Lovely old building and pretty garden along the river, on a very quiet (dead end) back street so no traffic. Food is decent and generously portioned, staff friendly, beer well kept and clientele mixed; always seemes to be lively but never packed
Roaring log fire in winter and riverside garden under the willows in summer - what more do you want? The number of awards Grant (landlord) has won are testament to the pub he has built up
Claims to be the oldest pub in the city - possibly true, it's definitely one of the best

Always busy but friendly old Cambridge pub by the Cam (but no pretensions). Good beer quality (not just Greene King) and some excellent pubby food
