We ate here at the weekend and had a lovely meal. We chose to sit in the bar area next to the main dining area and were greated by very friendly and helpful staff. Our food came out quickly and the choices were very good. Overall an excellent meal only spoilt by some very rude customers who were moaning non stop, very rude and abusive to the staff. The manager was very helpful and eventually removed the customers from the pub who were obviously on a chase for a free meal as nothing was obviously wrong. Sad that some people can be like this.

Had Sunday lunch in The Old School House in Ockley (Bryces) today with my parents and the in laws.

Most of the food was cold. The vegetables were almost raw, two of the cods that were ordered we actually cold, and another piece of fish was dry and overcooked and the allowed to go cold. it was sent back instead of finished.

As the waitress was clearing the food off the table, a caterpillar fell off one of the plates with salad on.

To add insult to injury, when we complained we were told that our meal was completely free but we weren't welcome again in the restaurant and accused of lying about the food problems and the worm (the presumed owner took this away when we complained a second time).

We were then given a load of cheek by the manager/owner/idiot and we left.

To tell the truth we should have took notice of the lack of people in the restaurant and the boxer dog roaming the kitchen and left immediately.

Never again.

i am surprised at some of the negative reviews on here as i have been on atg least a dozen occasions and the food is always top notch and the ale always pleasant. the restaurant part of the pub is wuite upmarket, whilst the bar does excellent food at a reasonable price

Didn't seem quite as restaurant-y as other comments led me to believe, although was quiet on my visit. Was divided in 2 and one section seemed like a fairly normal pub. Helpful staff, although they assume you want to eat. Was OK. Had a nice enough pint outside. Does smell of fish however. Sure it tastes very nice though

i agree the food here is very good, but what puts me off is the dog they own, walking behind the bar and in and out of the kitchen. is this allowed these days? puts me off a little.

As others have said this is restaurant with a small bar attached, and not a pub. The restaurant offers tremendous quality seafood (Bryce's reputation preceeds it in this respect). As a restaurant, it is highly recommended, but if you're after a 'pint & crisps' pub then this isn't for you - besides, the place gets so packed out with diners that there often isn't much room for boozers!

This is a restaurant with a small bar area, not a pub. However, as a restaurant it is excellent. The menu is predominantly seafood and the quality is outstanding. They also have an excellent selection of wines, including around 10 house selections for approx 12 each.

To disagree with previous reviews, I wouldn't say it is too expensive either - 25 for 2 courses is far less than I would expect to pay for this quality. Service was perhaps a little slow for some tastes but personally I don't like to be rushed so didn't consider it a problem.

This is a restaurant not a pub
Only eaten there once when the firm was paying
Food is excellent if you can afford it

i have to say on the whole the food in the bar is not bad..the waiting times are terrible, but o.k quality. the service we found to be slow and a bit of an effort overall.

Split into two, a bar and restaurant, the food served in the restaurant is outstanding. Very good quality, nice sized portions, very good service. The prices reflect the quality, two course meal for 2 plus champagne was 90. 10/10 Restaurant, 6/10 Pub.

Great pub, friendly host - genial scotsman Bill Bryce himself! The food is consistently excellent, especially the seafood, and the beer is the best kept / quality in the area. Excellent choice of wines by the glass. Lovely warm and cosy atmostphere. Thoroughly recommended by someone who has been going there for the last twelve years!

Excellent food (fresh fish), good beer (Adnams) and wine. Old schoolhouse, dogs allowed in bar.
