Typical Wetherspoons, plenty of cheap ales and people drinking alone and the customary group who had been drinking all day and harassing other customers who threatened to smash the place up when asked to leave
Did a good breakfast the next morning but the beans were stone cold

The couple of lads working behind the bar were a bit inept and slow. They looked like they’d both started that night and had been left to their own devices, exchanging nervous glances at each as the queues in front of them grew. Felt a bit sorry for them tbh. As Bluescrumpy has said, this is a basic ‘Spoons with not too much to add. Beers were in ok condition - when I did get served.

The Silk Mercer is Devizes' branch of Wetherspoons. It's a typical 'spoons open-plan layout that stretches back a long way with space maximised by having toilets upstairs. As usual many people were using the disabled. There is an outdoor area at the rear. The standard Wetherspoons ales - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharps Doom Bar were supplemented by 2 guests - Prescott Track Record & Hook Norton Yeastie Boys, in addition to a couple "coming soon". As it's currently their cider festival, they had 5 real ciders in boxes in the fridges - Cock Eyed Monkey Mango, Westons Rosie's Pig Hand Brake, Cornish Orchards "Pear Cider", Hunts Percy's Pride & Aspalls Waddlegoose Lane Bullhead Cyder. As with most Wetherspoons, the clientele is fairly rowdy. It's most likely the cheapest place in town and this reflects in the standard of customers. It was busy, with staff seemingly unable to clear the glasses from tables. If I look behind the unusually good cider choice (due to the festival), this is a very ordinary Wetherspoons.

Popped in here in a hurry - without sounding pompous, I wouldn't usually frequent such a place - with my little boy and his mum on Thursday evening. Well, what can I say? Bloody fantastic steak: special offer, a 14 oz monster and cooked to perfection AND the beer was £2.50 a pint! (Doom Bar). The staff were lovely (some of the other clientele weren't), and we were made to feel most welcome. All in all, a joy and I will definitely be going back again to try the curry (unless there's 14oz steaks on offer again!). Well done The Silk Mercer and thank you :)

This was one of the better 'spoons with good prompt service; a decent range of beers and a good mix of clientele. We watched the England game (first half) and had one of their steak dinners which whilst not being haute cuisine was filling and very acceptable - especially for the price. Worth a look in but try The Vaults next door as well.

Called in over New Year. JDW but one of the better ones I've been in. Tidy pint, good food served promptly, tables cleared and very friendly helpful staff.

top spoons with the usual cheap shant and grub to hand. only downside is on home turf they still call me Dave after all these years.

Another pub that doesnt have to tow the Wadworths/Devizes party line so you get a range of interesting ales, but its a Spooner so expect screaming kids and lots of them! 6 pumps on when I was there.

beer very poor when I visited twice.

An unusually small and cozy Wetherspoons, interesting beers and friendly bar staff, would be happy if this was my local.

Better than average W pub. Beer always good with a good varied range.

Well run Wetherspoons with friendly staff giving prompt service for both beer and food. Tables cleared and washed down too. Enjoyed a couple of the international festival beers.

Quick friendly service and a decent pint of festival ale, 7/10
