This pub is now called 'Christams Steps' and it just reeks character. I love it. The beers are spot on and the service is very friendly. Would highly recommend.

The first pint of Butcombe tasted of vinegar but was quickly changed. That sort of thing always puts me off a pub. The customer isn't a test pilot, tasting beer to ensure it's drinkable, that's the landlord's job! I tried another beer which was OK but the place looked a bit quiet and grubby, but it was early evening.

not a lot more to be said about this place after beatles and blackthorns views, this is the first time i have been in here in several years and was pretty impressed.the ale choice was bath gem, exmoor gold and marstons ringwood boondoggle, the boondoggle was crystal and spot on,the service friendly and the pub comfortable and relaxed, 7/10

I think Blackthorn is about right in the previous review. The 3SL has had alot of different owners over the last few years but no-one seems bothered to put the effort in. It is a pub of historical interest and surely must have huge potential, but every time I have dropped in over the last couple of years, there is no atmosphere, hardly any punters and it has been a very forgettable experience. For the record, Otter, Ringwood 49er and Bombardier were the ales on. They were all in good nick and the service was good. It is not a bad pub, but just could be so much better.........

It had apparently been closed for a while, but looked no different to last time I was in there on a recent visit. Clearly re-opened but not refurbished. Not there's anything wrong with it, it's a decent pub on several levels with quite a bit of character. Even what appears to be an old bread oven behind the bar, with the door open and illuminated within to make a bit of a feature.
It seems to suffer from being a bit off the beaten track, and was very quiet on a recent Sunday afternoon. In fact apart from someone who seemed to be a mate of the barman, we were the only ones in there.
As beatles38 has noted, a more interesting choice of beers than most pubs nearby. On this occasion it was also Ringwood 49'er, Hook Norton Hooky, Bass and one pump that was not in use. Possibly Doom Bar since that's what all the beer mats were advertising. Also Addlestone's cider.

A pleasant enough sort of pub , bereft of customers when I was in there . A very charming mien host . beers choice of 4 bass , 3 other ones not quite so commonly seen batemans rosey nosey a christmas one , hooky bitter , ringwoods 49'r . Tried them all rosey nosey paticuirly nice . a pub not the best in central Bristol , but I applaud them for having a more original selection than most in this neck of the woods .

One of Bristol's heritage treasures, this fascinating pub has welcomed drinkers at the bottom of Christmas Steps for over 300 years, as the collection of compact but cosy drinking areas suggests. Only the top bar has been opened out, and has a more modern feel. The food and beer is popular with locals, business types and shoppers alike.

cant say i think very much of this pub. The staff are not that knowlegable about the products they sell, i had to point out sambuca to the barmaid and the glass of wine we had seemed to be corked.

Awesome pub - can't fault it! Sister pub (The Lansdown - Clifton) also rules! Wicked friendly atmosphere and really friendly staff. Love it!

Nice enough place, more you up market wine bar than your local boozer. Have Hoegarten on tap and a good selection of wine.
