Couldnt resist the music coming from it. Went in and immediately engaged in a conversation about Milli Vanilli of all things. This encouraged us to sit at the bar, drink 2 pints and watch the barstaff pull through the doombar for around an hour. The mrs showed me a photo from the ladies. I always thought they were full of scented flowers with flunkies handing you silk hankies to freshen up. Another illusion shattered. Good pub. Veryt eclectic ground, covering all the social groups of the last 30 years.

friendly, quirky pub. alyays a light-hearted and jovial conversation going on, usually down at the bar. great jukebox. won't find any trouble here, but will find good people and a friendly atmostphere

Total dive, yet possibly the most expensive pub in Cambridge. Charging 3.50 for a pint of DOOM BAR is downright offensive. Avoid at all costs.

Yes it's grotty and a tad expensive but they play good music upstairs, the place has two pool tables and it has a much more atmospheric, alternative vibe to it than almost all the other pubs in the overvalued, overrated hellhole that is Cambridge.

Not on my list to visit but thought we would try whilst passing. As previously reported Hobgoblin was only beer on hand pump. Not the greatest pub but quite a number of customers on a weekday afternoon. Not a particularly welcoming or friendly pub and not the greatest tasting Hobgoblin. I noticed the TV turned to Sky Sports News so perhaps reasonable to watch football.

Terrible. Very grotty. Go to the Radegund at the end of the road instead.

It's hard to find a crap pub in Cambridge but this one certainly fits the bill. Avoid.

Unmodernised Tut'n'Shive (remember them) which always seems the quitest pub in this famous drinking street. 1 real ale (Hobgoblin) OK but short measure and 3. Decent enough if you need to watch footbal on TV.

My first and most definitely last visit was made last Saturday whilst on a Stag Do. Unfortunately it had been decreed that the Champion of the Thames was to be leapfrogged in favour of this dive, which was mainly on grounds of its larger floorspace, as there were 15 of us. I was glad that I got ahead and sneaked one in at the Champion anyway.
The beer: 4 possible pumps, only 1 functioning. At least I can say that the Fuller's London Pride was served well enough, but the plastic pintglass ruined the effect for me. Presumably plastic was being used on grounds that the firework display was happening on the common, but they're hardly adjacent and I fail to see the relevance.
The pub is housed in a rather charming building, but don't be deceived if you're a traditional pubgoer hoping for a classic sedate and stylish Cambridge experience: it is dark, dingy, VERY smokey and seemingly themed, along the lines of loud rock music, motorbikes etc etc. It does possess a "character" but it is not in any way organic, genuine or pleasant. I'm all for earthy backstreet locals, but this is simply too grungey for the likes of me, and asks for far too much forbearance if one is forced to have a second pint there as I was!

a bit unkempt considering it's had a number of facelifts - but the bar staff are friendly and the juke box outstanding.

Crap smellie place full of greebs and soap dodgers.Get a hair cut and a nit comb you filthy animals.Beer is overpriced and crap.Avoid!!!

Wnet through a string of refits in the 80s but stopped about 15 years ago, since when the decor has matured/worn into a quirky place with its own character. Staff of variable quality and beer only OK but a fun place if you're in that frame of mind. Good natured folks drinking in here, but you wouldn't bring your mother in law in for a port & lemon....

very pithy, k'or. anyway, good pub, sort of a grimy, faded ex-theme-pub pub. couldn't be improved upon.

It could be my second home. You can spend your time there with wonderful people listening to great music, playing pool. You won't forget this place! And people! I can't forget one of them...

First visited in the mid-nineties, returned last month to find it unchanged if a little grubbier. Harmless but not a good choice on a bright day. Good to see some foolish rockers still trapsing round the place stuck in 1993.

The only pub I've been in where an unconscious man lay on the floor in front of the bar - when I enquired about the man to the landlord he said - "oh just ignore him!" (1987)

Home to one of the best jukeboxes in Cambridge - including Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Also has a large-screen for football and other sporting events. Don't be put off by the unusual characters (I'm one of them !) or the strange decor.... friendly bar staff and a good atmosphere await you. If I didn't like the place, I wouldn't have made it my local.

Came from Finland and spend a long weekend in Cambridge. King Street Run was absolutely the best pub (visited about 15). Nice people, easy to get familiar with, great and tiredlessly friendly personnel. Also good real ales!
