please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

My first visit for 25 years and while it lacks the charm of its early 1990s incarnation, it's still not bad. A lovely building and what looked like excellent food and topped by a fine beer garden while local ales from Loddon were on the roster. A bit 'gastro' in its perhaps overly smart furnishings and overly dressed clientele though.

Ordinary, over priced food and poorly kept beer, won't be coming back. That's all I have to say.

We do try to support local pubs. It's years since we were in here, it hasn't changed much. Staff still slow and miserable. Had to listen to the local village idiots incessant ramblings about his huge, huge Paterdale (whatever it is). A definite no no.

Lovely old pub but our food was only mediocre, over priced and under cooked. Limited choice of beer and not very talkative bar staff.
Won't go again.

Good solid pub decent food & beer.

Postal address might be Reading but this pub is actually in Oxfordshire.

Only Fullers Pride (3) on yesterday with Hobgoblin and Brakespears (2.95) clips turned around. Beer was OK but nothing special.

Food menu was reasonable and portions looked good.

But, on a warm afternoon, all the windows were closed and locked, the place was hot and stuffy and full of flies! Bar staff couldn't (or wouldn't) open any windows!

A Bluebecker pub, open all day.

Just visited The Pack Horse for a valentines meal and my partner's meal was cold! I was half way through my meal before his hot replacement meal came out with no apology/update from the kitchen!! I then had the banoffee pie for dessert and the fresh cream topping was squirty cream from a can-cheap and tasteless comes to mind!!! Wouldn't go back!!

Really good pub, good food (served hot!) very comfortable and welcoming. 3 real ales on, I understand there are often 4, only tasted a Hobgoblin which was fine. Would recommend it.

Went to this pub last night and although the food was presented beautifully, it was cold. The service was terribly slow and we had to ask several times for some tap water and glasses. When the bill came there was 10% added (which I object to) for service charge which I took off.

Wouldn't go here again - try the Grosvenor in Caversham, it is much better

Closed for a reason! It is now a lovely pub, not disturbed by the "chain pub" effect, it still retains a lovely charm! I certainly will be visiting more often! Thumbs up!

The refurbishment is fantastic! i hadn't been to The Pack Horse for ages but got dragged along to check it out ... gorgeous restaurant area, and a lovely cozy bar area, the food was tasty too - I'll be going back.

After being blinded by the football pitch floodlights posted on the edge of the carpark, we entered into a warm friendly pub. I had been to the Pack horse before it changed to blubeckers and it was dark and unwelcoming, hurrah for the new lived kicked back into this place. The was good and arrived in good time. The one let down, i am sorry to say was the staff, they were nice, but a bit too nice a bit too enthusiastic. After being asked for our order just as our seats were warming up, we asked for another few minutes, 30 minutes later i had to ask to be served. That is only a small quibble but there had to be one....will definately go back again, lets hope they let me after this review. 7/10

formerly one of the most divine and traditional hostleries in southern england. Mellow atmosphere, comfortable surroundings, superb real ales, unspoilt rural architecture. So close to the town yet a million miles away in peace and charm. No nasty pipped music just some mellow blues. Good simple honest English food, friendly locals. Roaring log fire in winter.
I have heard it is now being turned into a gastro chain pub/restaurant. What an outrage, another piece of all that makes england worth living in destroyed.

Brilliant pub, serving proper British pub food and good real ale, how a pub should be. The landlord was a real character, highly recommend.

i have been to your pub a few times for meals,i've been with my hubby and kids and also just me and hubby having a romantic evening, and it's great.the food is the best around and not too expensive either.the only thing i'd say it needs is,more items on the puddings menu (gataux etc....),also i always have a glass of wine there,it's the one i like the best,(much better than the fox or the hungry horse!!)
i'll be visiting for a meal with my parents and in-laws soon for a meal too,i would and have recomended you to my friends.

Recently visited this pub and was charmed by the cosy atmosphere, the friendliness of the pub owner (who made us feel very welcome) and his wife who spent time talking us through their home cooked menu.
We chose a variety of different dishes and without exception they were very tasty and beautifully presented. This is one of the nicest pubs I have eaten in for a long time. They had a large choice of good value wines to compliment the food and I would definately recommend a visit.

been recently taken on by some older people. Until recently was run by a group of young rugby players and friends - good atmosphere although no music, papers, etc.

I have not been here for a couple for months but this pub is noteworthy for being a Gales house with Gales ales in excellent condition. Good basic bar menu too.
