Nice corner pub with big windows. Food was OK. Was there 22/02/15 and the toilets look to be fixed. They smell of talcum powder!

we visited this pub on 14/4/14 and i remembered when it used to be my local in the early 80s. well its nothing like it used to be, mores the pitty! the mens toilet was in a semi state of repair and there was no toilet paper ( i have a big hang-up about toilets with no paper, it means they don't care about their customers) the two women who were running the pub were more concerned about putting things on the wall than serving....a free tip to all governors of pubs....do improvements in your time not when customers come in for a drink and have to put up with tapping and drilling and other associated noise. drinks were ok but expensive when you consider what a toilet roll costs.

Notably friendly welcome. Four ales, the Hogs Back TEA was v good. Rises well above the usually dreary "Original Pub Co" corporate offerings.

A useless piece of info about this pub:
For any Jim Diamond or PHD fans this was the pub used in the video for the 1981 UK hit " I won't let you down " by PHD (Jim Diamond lead vocal)
Still looks the same today....

Quite an imposing corner pub with a traditional appearance, and inside it is quite airy with high ceilings and a fairly sparse arrangment of furniture. Upstairs, there is a large-ish dining room (although this didn't seem to be in use when we visited). Beer-wise, the are four handpumps but two were for London Pride, the Deuchars IPA was off and the guest ale clip was covered over with a 'Sold Out' sign. Hopefully this next bit isn't typical, but while the first pints of Pride were fine, one of our group saw the barman trying to pour slops from the drip tray into his glass (which was, of course, refused and a fresh pint was poured without too much fuss, but still shouldn't have happened in any pub - let alone one with Cask Marque accreditation).

Visited this pub in November one lunch time. Stella ok and the barman friendly.at service but no other chat. Tables and stools were clean, I hate dirty sticky ones. The gents was out of action but they allowed the use of the ladies downstairs which was fair enough. My comment to this and any other London pub is keep it friendly, all we want is a bit of interaction, more and more pubs dont talk to customers. Shame.

The only pub I ever got barred from. Certainly didn't have an upstairs then.

Nice little pub with lots of character. Well I thought It was little, until I saw upstairs. Lovely dining room, which also doubles as a meeting room. Great idea

Nice bar, female friendly plus a very comfortable non-smoking dining room on first floor. Great food and a good selection of wine. Give it a go.

I went in the Redan yesterday to watch the Charity Sheild match. I was served a very cloudy pint of Youngs Bitter. Which I took back and got a pint of Greene King IPA with a massive head on it. This tasted OK but I began to notice that the bar staff were serving beer with massive heads. Even lager. Probably between 75% and 80% liquid. Then the football started and I asked if they could turn the volume up and was told "we're not allowed to".
So I left and went to the Porchester. But that's another story...

The Redan has just been tarted up. It looks a lot nicer (more traditional) now. Still hard to get excited about it though.

This corner bar at the bottom start of Queensway is a rather quiet and relaxing place for a pint or two before entering an Indian meal at one of the near-by restaurants.
|
a pub in a prominent area, good for meeting up and going elsewhere
|
one of those pubs where you could never imagine tying on a session,...all the punters are transcient,..one or two pints at most,...still,..it serves a purpose.
|
The upstairs room with a big screen is great for live sports. It gets very busy for big matches such as Internationals and Champions League so get there early if you want a seat.
|
The Redan is maintaining a traditional pub atmosphere in a Queensway area of increasing Mid-Eastern quisine.
Large numbers of travelers mix with locals enjoying a variety of largers and ales. Wines generally the average aussie drop. Food very competitely priced at two mains for 7.
|
Very few pubs called the 'Redan' (a Crimean War name) left. Pub ok, real ale, chips also. It's had a certain level of gastropub remake but it still looks like a pub, and there are many that don't even do that.

Pub average, but good screen for sports upstairs.

The pub itself is neither good nor bad, positives being the location and the not too loud music for the oldies amongst us. Look out for bag snatchers though!

Gawd bless this pub - One of the last few half decent pubs in the area. Over the road you have the first ever coin operated laundrette in London to look at whilst you have a beer. Fab
