Feels a bit like a hotel with it's small bar area and restaurant style seating, and strange layout. No real ales, so only catering for diners, and lager drinkers.
They also need to sort out the music. The last two times we were here, they had Tina Turner blaring out the speakers. This appeared to be the only CD they had. Not the sort of place to go for a quiet drink.

Visited this pub not long after it reopened and then again a few weeks ago.
My impression of the Bull on the Green is that the new owners can't seem to decide whether they want to run the business as a pub or an average gastro-pub. Either way it's not working. The outside has a wonderful traditional look but yet inside you feel it's more a modern restaurant that happens to have a bar.
As a foodie place I would see it as very hard to compete against the many fine restaurants and eating places on it's door step in Station Road.
As a pub, they're not going to compete against other locals that are cheaper, have better beers selection and have the capability to show live sports (in particular Premiership Football). A major factor also has to be the fact they they are only licensed until 10pm (as a result of problems that occurred under the previous owenership), which would obviously deter the late night weekend drinker.
As for the beers, on my first visit the Kronebourg was fine, if a little pricey at around 3.50 a pint. Second visit was disappointing as the beer quality was very poor. So much so, that we all left after only just one drink and took the short walk to the Kings Head nearby.
I hope it works out for the new owners and possibly with a few changes this pub could become a really established venue again. I'll probably stick my head in again sometime next year and see if theres been any change.

Yeah, it is listed. I had a drink here about a year and a half ago and it was totally dead, so I wasn't surprised to see it closed and boarded up at the weekend. So what's going on then? I do hope it's re-opened as a pub, as it's a lovely ornate Victiorian buillding, right at the centre of the old village and has great potential.

yes the gay nite is this saturday night! they have a great DJ and barbara bush is hosting - promises to be a fabulous night! straight people are also welcome! it is open till 2am
|
Is the rumour correct that there is going to be a gay bar upstairs. If so is it going to open to everyone or just gay men. Will straight people be let in?

The destruction of this pub is nothing short of travesty. I walked in with my mate for a pint some time ago and stood at the bar for 15 minutes with out a barperson in sight - we left and have never returned. The punters look very young and are often seen spilling out on to the streets drunk and screaming - hideous.

I am the manager of the Bull&Crown and was very upset to see some of the reviews, obviously glad to read the comments as it can only improve our service. when i took over the place true, it was full of coke heads and football hooligans. The window got broken by a so called family friend who was coked out of his head and he was barred along with several other coke users, the supplier bubbles( has added a comment)was barred, sour grapes?. We now do not have a cocaine problem in the pub. The pub has been redecorated the beer is of a high standard(brewery reccomendation)prices reasonable and a good social atmosphere. those of you who are barred and made those negative comments have asked to come back in and been refused. dont worry about the Bull & Crown we are doing just fine without you...genuine complaints will be dealt with. ps all negative reports are anonymous ?

i sometimes visit the bull and crown and i think its proper good:) all the barmaids have nice boobies too:)

Lots of noisy young kids (i.e. 18-24 year olds), Brahms on breezers and crap lager. A place to avoid.
|
What a crap hole, more chavs than u can shake a stick at.

Interesting; seems to have been a bit of a campaign on the reviews praising the new owners and all on one day! Read the previously bad reviews and entered with some trepidation as I liked the old pub. Lighter inside, busy, basically not a bad pub. But why so much karaoke?

What a lovely family pub with nice staff, clean and updated. Locals and new commers it is so lovely and it has gone back to the village pub.
|
Well done to the NEW OWNERS!!! Staff are pleasant and in uniform which makes such a change and how clean the place is. And even girls we get loo roll in the toliets!! what a nice and pleasant change to the old shit hole ... Molly K's that we drank in.

Well what can I say, after avoiding my local due to the dirty messy and basically run down state I revisited last weekend.. What a change I can honestly say it was one of the best nights I have had. The place has had a complete makeover and it is clean and the staff are wonderful. I will be visiting the Bull and Crown again. And a big thank you to the NEW LANDLORDS.

Molly K,s (Bull & Crown)is finished, full of coke heads dacing around the place, windows being smashed, what a shame! local people have taken over and the old landlords have left.(dont blame them really!)used to be such a great pub full of regulars and friendly sports fans. The old bull & Crown is certanly back with a pool table installed and all the trouble being let back in, there was alot of hard work been put in over the past five years but sadly has been destroyed in a matter of two months, all the regulars have now left and drinking else where (me being one of them)and will never return.

Full of Coke heads, nice inside, cheap pints all round, shame about the pikey clients.

It is a dark pub with something of a personality crisis- there nautical trinkets sharing space with photo's of chingford and some irish themed tat. The beer is not the best, (i think it's the stella that is always flat) by any judgement, and it is horrendously expensive. The food is good, but again you pay top whack. The locals are generally nice but there's a few cokeheads who could do with barring, the management appear extremely reluctant to take this step and so Molly K's remains a place with loads of unrealised potential.

I have been going down the Bull and Crown for 5 years now. Although I do miss the old landlady Jan, I must also comment that it certainly has had a wonderful improvement the bar staff are friendly and it is very clean. And they have infact kept the wicked kareoke on a sunday my favorite part of the week! All my girl friends go down there every sunday and have done for years. Hence not losing most of the regulars since being taken over! Its a shame the function room is no longer upstairs as that is where i had my 18th birthday party but i have heard the food is delicious in lexies.
Nice one guys and girls!

What a great effort the new owners have made!
This landmark Chingford hostilry (formerly the Bull and Crown) has seen a huge and very sympathetic makeover.
Lexies offers a very tasty (if a little pricey) menu in elegant surroundings and the main bar downstairs has been completely cleaned up and refurbished.
The bar-staff are eager to please, the beer has improved and theyve kept the legendary Sunday afternoon Karaoke (the previous incarnations one saving grace)!
Well done guys.
PS The function rooms and bar area that make up Lexies can be booked on Sundays, my wife and I recently used them for our sons christening and again I cant say enough about the staff and quality of fare.
Well done guys.
