St James Tavern, Bermondseyback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Under new owners from mid-2014 and completely refurbed. Very welcoming and now attracts a more mixed crowd of locals and nearby workers so has a decent buzz early evening.
Serves one or two ales on pump plus additional fancier craft ales in bottles (including local brewers like The Kernel). Food is based on a menu of Pieminster pies with mushy peas and mash/chips.

From the outside looks quite nice as it's an older building amongst 1970's buildings.
Inside quite nice too.
The real ale I had was not that clever and although not intimidating, I thought better of complaining.
The Gregorian up the road looks better but never went in there

Somebody's removed my review - why? All I can remember about the pub now is that the customers were effing and blinding all the time, even in front of the female staff.

If anything, gets better on each visit. Ale choice is still either Pedigree or bottled Whitbread Light Ale which, given that most of the punters stick to lager, is understandable - better one well-kept beer than three that go off because you can't sell them. The pub itself is a fairly imposing street-corner local and looks nothing special from the outside, if you miss the Evening Standard pub award plaques, but is immaculate inside - dominated by a dark, wooden horseshoe bar and with all seats, toilets and pool table intact. As for the regulars, I've yet to see trouble, though good-natured banter can come thick and fast. Vies with the Ship in Rotherhithe for best pub in SE16.

Classic old-school Bermondsey boozer - clean, welcoming and regulars who'll banter but don't bite. More recommendations? well, the Pedigree was superb, there's often a stall outside doing cheap eels, whelks and crabs and it's not far from Manze's pie and mash shop. Highly commended.

Not a bad place. Friendly, not too expensive.

A small local Bermondsey/Millwall Pub with a friendly atmosphere. All the standard fair you'd expect in a well kept London backstreet boozer.
