Now called the Bottle Shop, I paid two visits to this place late last year. It is much like it was before, albeit a little more popular these days. Southport Band Stand & Problem Child Rascal were the two ales on my first visit. The cider was Welsh Warrior. The bottle selection is of course good. Always worthy of a stop whilst in Southport.

First visit to this pub on my trip to Southport. Enjoyed a pint of Southport golden ale. Fantastic range of bottle beers form many countries. Add 50p to price and you drink it on the premises. Freindly and keen owners.

This is a delightful little place ! I suppose it fits the description of “micro pub”, but it’s also an off-license / bottle shop, and continental style cafe.

It is very narrow, and just about the whole of the left hand wall is filled with a huge range of bottles. The first half is British and the rest foreign. I noted Belgium, Germany and USA – there may be others. Prices are marked on the bottles, but note, as mentioned by previous posters, there is a 50p charge if you want to drink one on the premises. On the right at the rear is the bar, with 3 handpumps. On my visit they were serving a Southport brewery beer, and two lagers. I Had Flensburger Export – which was reasonable though a bit bland.

Down the right hand side of the shop there is a single column of 5 or 6 tables. There are also a few tables outside on the pavement. Whatever space is left over is covered with (mainly) Belgian beer adverts.

I’m not sure about food. I didn’t notice any menus, but the couple at the next table were eating what was obviously a cheese-board.

The place was fairly quiet when I was there, but I can imagine it can easily get packed.

7/10 – will definitely return and sample some bottles.

Called in here yesterday, 2nd May 2014. I agree with other comments that more space would be better, however we were greeted by friendly and informative staff, and a huge range of beers from Belgium and Germany. As it was early in the day and our first port of call, we sensibly tried a draught real ale first, which was Southport Brewery Carousel (4.0%). I followed that with a Duchesse de Bourgogne, a flemish sour beer; this style doesn't appeal to everyone but to me it's a great belgian ale. As we were among the first visitors on the day, we sat at the back on very comfortable seats, and left just as the place was filling up a little more during the later part of lunchtime. Will definitely be back, bringing one or two other friends who haven't been here yet, they will appreciate it as they are frequent visitors to Belgium and this beer shop/bar reflects the style and relaxed atmosphere of Belgian bars.

Very crowded and claustrophobic last Saturday afternoon. I eventually bought a pint of Southport Brewery 'Sandgrounder' which was very nice.
The 'shop' is basically a long, narrow passageway with floor to ceiling shelving full of bottled beers of the world along one side of the shop and chairs and tables on the other side making for an even narrower passageway. The bar, containing three pumps, is at the far end meaning that a long queue of customers formed and even when I had got served I had nowhere to go. So I weaved my way back out and stood outside under a canopy on the pavement. Just as well there is a canopy as it was a wet and windy day. If this visit was an indication of how popular this place is then the owners need to move to a bigger premises. Not sure I want to repeat the experience.

The Beershop is shop and a pub that is worth a visit.

Beer in a bottle is not good compared to the version on tap.
The only exception is German Weissbier bottled with
sediment. The Beershoop has a great selection of Weissbier.

On tap they have one real ale and two German pilsner that rotate.

What a super little place! I thought it was simply going to be an off-licence but when I got there I saw the tables and chairs (not many) and headed in to see what was going on. Terrific range of bottled beers including some from smaller German brewers but others from Belgium as well as Britain and other parts of the world as well. Simply select your chosen beer and take it to the bar where they will open it and serve you (50p charge for the bottle but each one is priced so you can select at your own price range). Southport beer and two foriegn draught ales - I was so impressed that I stayed for a couple more beers including Andechs Monastry Beer and a pils from Merkendorf. I stayed at the beer where I had a good chat to the owner and several of the customers - many who come specifically for the range of bottles and the genuine ambience of the place. I was offered a small dish of mixed cheeses and pickled onions was was nice! It would be great to see this type of establishment in other towns (but not too many!!) - it is run by enthusiastic people who obviously love their beers and watching customer enjoy them as well. Highly recommended.

This is a handly little place to know about in Southport. Whilst it is primarily an off licence, you can drink any of the bottles on the premises in a narrow cafe-style room, for a 50p supplement. They also have a Southport beer on tap - Ruck & Maul on my visit plus 2 ciders from Gwynt y Ddraig - Farmhouse Scrumpy & Haymaker. Definitely worth a visit.

After a sticky start when trade was very slow has evolved into a pub with an off-licence. The off-licence side is just magnificent, I travel from Liverpool to buy my bottled joy here, so tend to buy a lot at once. Very good for American and German beer, good selections of British, Belgian and other Euros, and plenty of oddities. Good selection of glasses and other beer paraphenalia as well.

However, has become a very popular drinking establishment, so it now stays open late for an off-licence (but not pub hours) and is very crowded early evening. As a pub it's expensive, hard to get a table and not exactly a traditional style of venue, so I only recommend drinking there if your preference is for bottled foreign beer (The Guest House and Scarisbrick are short walks away), but as an offy I don't know any better.

A very different concept to real ale provision, friendly staff, and friendly regulars advising you on your choice. Only a handful of tables so can get a bit busy.

Recently-opened beer emporium on the northern edge of Southport's main thoroughfare, Lord Street, and 200yds from the Guest House.
It's certainly a shop, not a pub, although it's licensed for consumption on the premesis and as such there is a small seating area at the rear of the one narrow room with a library of beer-related literature for you to sit in and enjoy your drink with.
It has hundreds of British and worldwide bottled beers- surely the best in Southport (incuding the award-winning Golden Sands, a local beer which is unfortunately rare in Southport due to the insane pub-tie system) and now also has a couple of handpumps I believe.
This won't be to everyone's tastes as it doesn't even pretend to be a pub- bright lights, cakes for sale etc.- but for the exotic beer fan it's something of a must. Definitely worth at least a try on the way to the Guest House.
