I very often walk by here and take a quick glance at the ale selection. It has certainly improved of late. So 4 of us stopped here for a quick half on Monday. It was much quieter than I've seen it and we managed to get a seat. The 3 ales on were Big Bog Peat Bog Porter, Southport Sandgrounder Bitter & Liverpool Organic Honey Blonde. We had two halves of 2 of the ales. A CAMRA discount is offered, but only on pints. Apparently 2 halves don't equate to a pint where the discount is concerned though. Not the best way of winning custom. But I'll increase my rating to a 5/10. There are far more welcoming pubs not too far from here.

Thus pub was quite busy when I went on a Friday night. A very modern pub feel to it, did have an atmosphere with many people just getting off from work. The prices are good and the beer was in very good condition.

A couple of ales on the other night. Not many customers though and none of them under 50.

Still a reasonable pint and still harbouring numerous senile delinquents.

Vastly improved since the days when it was Ned Kelly's. The Victoria Cross had 4 ales available last night at 11pm but only 4 customers! Perhaps it had been busier earlier in the evening. I had a swift drink before catching the last bus home.

Stil kind of okay but can see this not being too popular with many. Doesn't have a traditional feel to it and it is home to a number of piss taking owlarse types. The ale is usually pretty good though.

Clean modern interior and a clean updated drinker's alehouse. Not a great deal of seating space but a good number of decent ales on. needs to be re-listed as the Victoria Cross.

The picture at the top of the page is current, the reviews refer to its previous incarnation. Making an effort with cask ale I'm told, will call in and post a review soon.

Reopened by the same group who have the Richmond and Lord Warden. Typical of their design, it's modern, open plan. Clean and fresh with plenty of light coming in through the panoramic windows. Couple of good real ales on-I has the Southport.

This place is now called the Victoria Cross and appears to be part of the same group as the Richmond and the Lord Warden. Whilst the Richmond is passable, I'm afraid the Victoria Cross fell into the same category as the Lord Warden - one that I won't be returning back to soon. Brains SA was the only real ale on and didn't seem in the best condition. Most customers were there to watch the Liverpool match on the TV. We drank up quickly and headed nearby to the far superior Vernon Arms.

NOW CLOSED! Gone to the big last orders in the sky!

Its a pity - I was there August 2009 for the Beatles weekend and they had a Mild and a Bitter, (think it was Cains). Real good buzz about the place. Lots of colourful characters. Think they changed the name to Rubens - I believe. For a city centre pub it should have been busier though. I think Punch Taverns are the landlords and to be fair that in itself is a death sentence to any pub

The only occasions I visit this street corner, city centre pub is at the end of a night out in Liverpool when I have some time to kill before catching my bus home. It is handily placed for numerous buses. No real ale in here just keg and Eurofiz. It reflects the clientelle - rough and ready. Karaoke on a Saturday night. Best avoided.
