Have heard a rumour that this first-rate pub is closing. Sad if true: excellent beer, good food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere

Shame we had to wait til 5pm for it to open leaving just a few minutes to grab an excellent Fat Pig beer and head for the nearby station to catch the train home to S.E. England. Excellent place.

Along with a decent range of cask ales and friendly service, actually being open at all must be the most important indicator of a good pub so finding this place closed at the far from ungodly hour of 4pm of a Thursday afternoon (along with sister pub the Fat Pig) was a profound disappointment. We did wait and were glad we did as the service - from an inevitable bearded hipster - was affable and the beers very good - Tiny from the pub's own range was especially good. The food menu promised many scrumptious things - so, totally excellent, just put in a little more of a shift please.

I liked this pub. Only about 4 real ales on, but they were nice. Very friendly staff and very good food was presented, a tad on the pricey side. A tucked away side street pub that should be sought out.

If you love your quirky foody restauranty places you will love this.
However i am a working class man who likes a boozer followed by a kebab so i we felt slighty out of place in here with all the yuppies.
Very expensive wine (just like it's sister pub the Fat Pig) a few ales on too.
Nice interior to the place i could see some people loving it, it is just not my cup of tea.

3/10

Just had to write to say what amazing food we had here, last Sunday..

We ate at tea time, and had Venison Sunday Roast, which was delicious.

Staff were totally friendly & helpful.

3 Real Ales on were all in excellent nick..2 were local, one of which was called Flag Ship..also on was an Ind Coope Ale, also very well kept..

A top pub, had a great experience here!

Great pub. Good ales and ciders on tap. Quirky decor with a vintage table football table. Lots of board games, Jenga etc. Decent outdoor space with big projector for live sport and regular movie nights, watch out for sitting under kitchen extractor fan and getting splattered by fat. On a friday the food was exceptional, in particular the starter 'Black Pudding, Bacon & Venison Sausage Terrine' which was a take on a full english breakfast, served with a fried quails egg, fried slice of bread and chopped tomatoes with tea jelly, absolutely brilliant.

As a result of htis brilliant friday, a few of us went back on sunday and the food was unrecognisable, clearly chefs night off and for the same prices it was a total farce. two plates had to be sent back, a rare steak was well done and a tuna had been completely ruined. inquired as to where one of the beers came from as id never seen it before and the barman bluntly said 'from the pump'. well thanks very much.

if you go tuesday-saturday its exeptional.
