The home of the local Rotary Club apparently and it was little surprise to learn that. Nice multi-roomed pub with various period features including a superb range in the snug-like area immediately to your left as you walk in. A traditional, well-kept pub if slightly dated. I enjoyed the Robinsons Unicorn on Friday, their Dizzy Blonde as well as Hartleys Cumbria Way were also available.

I cannot understand how this pub manages such a large menu! But they have a *vast* menu of food items, and all of the ones I've sampled have been well done and not expensive. This is good-quality pub food, not "fine dining", but all the better for that- there are enough pretentious places in the vicinity.
The beer is good and reasonably priced, the ambiance is warm (especially when there's a fire going) and it's altogether a nice place to be, especially when it's cold outside.
My favourite pub in Tarporley village, not least because the young shouty element go elsewhere!

OK, used to work with the landlords son years ago and knew it was a little bit of a dining pub, but where isn't these days, having said that this pub is nice enough, very well run and probably caters for the clientele it has, very well.
The front seems to be the main dining part with the end of the bar serving out to it but for the drinkers, straight through there is more like the main bar which was a bit more like a traditional pub. Having said that it was brightly lit with these new energy saving bulbs which stick out of the top of the shades and pierce holes in the back of the retina. This was not helped by the ultra white ceiling and white painted bar back and walls. This room felt a bit like your grandma's parlour but having said that actually had a very nice feel and the Unicorn and Dizzy Blond were very good.
Turning left as you enter and going through the main dining area you can turn right and go into a room that runs down the back of the bar. This seemed to be the best room in the pub but seemed like an inner sanctum, a bit local and possibly a bit clicky but very rightly so, this is their pub.
Overall a nice experience. For the foodies, I would probably choose this pub to eat in and I've heard independently it is the best for food.

Still fond of this pub, though I don't think it's quite what it was. But beer and food were value for money.

Went into this pub for the second time in a year - very accommodating although being a Robinsons the beer range was limited - had the dragons breath or whatever it was - tasted OK but was not 'hot' like advertised. Still, the service was impeccable - barman came round with a platter of sausages, pork pies and quiche for all customers free of charge - it was not Brake Brothers either - quality ingriedients. 8/10...mostly for service, beer 5.5/10

Visited Tarporley and this pub for the first time on 07/11/09 with wife and daughter. We had lunch. I had 'brunch', wife had cheese platter can't remember what daughter had. They had soft drinks, I had Robinsons 'Dizzy Blonde'. We all agreed the food and drink were fine. This is an old, village pub. Seemed to be food oriented but there were small areas where drinkers could sit.
The clientelle seemed to be well-heeled middle aged and pensioners some of whom spoke loudly of their planned winter holidays. The customers probably simply reflected the local residents. Dig out your cravat and visit!
